Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

I hold a plat charge. I'm sorry, I don't know the spending power. Maybe average 5-6k a month going by the amount of points generated last year.
Thanks mate. The reason i wanna ask is trying to figure out if this system bonus is related to spending power(of course spending power related to your spending pattern)

That's awesome - well done! Was this via a phone call or live chat?
My PE AF is due at the end of this month (Thursday!) so I'd like to get a retention bonus in before then if possible.
Over the phone.

Select Option 6 for cancellation which takes you straight to the retention team rather than wasting time with CS reps. It's not always about the spend you put on the card as I haven't put a cent on it for months.

No-one here knows what the computer will spit out. Hope that you figure it out and then let us know.

Yeah i know its a huge hard algo. The reason i got curious is because i dont earn much and not spending too much(maybe 25k in 3months? But i am not rich person) and system gave me 210k spending power. I am thinking if there is anythng related

Thanks so much @Rohit, this is excellent info.
Much appreciated.
Will try my luck and hopefully report back with a positive outcome!

Just as an extra data point, here is my attempt using Live Chat:
Amex CSR: We really value your long term cardmembership with us and we have sent you offers as per your card usages in the past and will send them in the future as well.

Me: Jack, respectfully, I don't think you've understood what I'm writing about.

Amex CSR: I get your point here. However, under the new regulation, we are prohibited from providing offers or making any suggestions which would alter your decision to cancel your Card. I'm really sorry, but I am not able to provide an offer to alter your decision.

Try call instead
Just got off the phone with a guy from the SYD office retention team.
He tapped away at his computer, but alas - my account has literally no retention offers on it at all.
It's either cancel the card fully or stay on and keep paying the annual fee.

Damn it - I was hoping for a nice suite of retention bonus points like some other posters here have scored.

Going back to the drawing board now...

Well i wont say your call is completely worthless - at least you know there is computer algo who manages retention offer

Did you already held PE card for a year and tried to call?
I've held my PE since Mar 2016...
Added an Explorer to it too in Sep 2017 (ah, the good ol' days where we could "link" the Explorer and PE together to earn a minimum of 2 Ascent MR points per $).
I even asked for a "loyalty" bonus given my loyalty to Amex (especially as the benefits have really eroded over the years). Nup, zilch, nada, nothing.

Thats real sad mate...

Your loyalty to Amex means nothing to them and, honestly, 6 years is not really long term loyalty.
I understand - with all the churning that occurs these days, I thought that 6 years would count for something!
But you're right - loyalty is unfortunately dead these days, things just can't be like the "good ol' days" anymore can they?

On the positive side - higher fuel prices means faster point earning (at least that's the silver lining I like to paint when cost of living rises)!

You are an optimistic person lol. Yeah id agree PE gives more pts on fuels
