Re: AMEX lounge in SYD International airport.

Has anyone been in recently - are coughtails being served?

Just saw in the latest Amex mag that the Platinum card now gets you access to the Express path! This combined with the new lounge makes the Sydney airport offering from Amex pretty impressive.

Will be making use of both tomorrow.

Can anyone confirm what bubbles are on offer in the Amex lounge? Champagne or just sparkling?

Its only the unlimited access cards - Platinum and Centurion Charge that have the Express Path access

Re: AMEX lounge in SYD International airport.

Platinum Charge is actually $1,200/year and Centurion (by invitation only) is $5,000/year

100% correct. Centurion is $5000/per year, titanium is expensive ;). Though, they have eased a little on the 'invite only' part.

Well the express path access was worth is weight in gold tonight as the customs lines just before 5 were chockers! The Amex lounge was smaller than i was expecting but the food was quite good (spicy chicken wings, meat pies, sausage rolls, shepherds pies, penne pasta, peninis, as well as some decent cheeses, olives and nuts).

They had Grey Goose, Hendricks and Chivas but disappointingly couldn't make any coughtails. Wines were rather average and only a sparkling not Champagne (although the sparkling was Grant Burge). All up very acceptable for as a free perk of a card that's in the wallet anyway!

Have now migrated to the QF business lounge to enjoy a decent red and wait for the very delayed 149 service to Auckland!

Looking forward to it next week, though suspect I'll end up in the QF J Lounge anyway :)

Question - per the website access is also granted to the Thai Royal Silk Lounge in BKK.. has anyone tried to access this lounge with their card? Might try that on the return.

Which website are you referring to?

Keen to know this! I'll be in BKK next week..

Okay, re-looked at it, must have been a little jet lagged.. the offer is for Thai Amex Platinum card holders only. I might give it a go anyway.. what's the worst that can happen, I get sent back to the QF Club? :p

Used the Amex lounge in Sydney for the first time this week. Was flying Scoot (not recommended!) and had no lounge access.

The selection of food and beverages is far better than other similar lounges in other airports. While small it has a nice ambience.

Finally the the barista made a half decent coffee. I will be back!

Scoot's not brilliant by any means, but great for the price - often $199 SYD-SIN or double that in PE.

Used the Sydney lounge on 12/12/15 using ANZ Black. It was pretty small and quite busy. Food did not look that appealing but tasted OK. We didn't have time for a drink but the bar looked reasonable.

Tried our luck on the other end in Dallas and were not able to enter with any of our Amex cards (CBA Diamond, ANZ Black, Velocity Platinum) without paying $50 USD - we gave it a miss.

Hi, how does it work with main card holder and supplementary card holder? I understand the card holder gets two entries per year, does this mean they can take the supplementary card holder in with them at same time to count as two entries ie can the card be swiped twice?

Relied on SYD Amex lounge last week. Standing room only so service agents were sending guests to Premium Plaza lounge next door.

Small and congested yet had intimate feeling and staff were busy clearing tables and replenishing food. Downside was a single toilet, the other OOO. Guests were encouraged to go down elevator to access other toilets.

Amex lounge is great benefit when access to other lounges is not possible.

I would like to know as well.
We will be there in July.
My husband and I have a card each.
Will we each be able to take my parents in with us ie. 1 guest each?

thanks

I think you should be fine. My partner forgot to bring his card, and he was able to get in on my card.

I know this is a late reply, but hopefully it'll answer someone's question.

My understanding is that for cards with a limit of 2 entries per calendar year, the second person can be anyone you like, but you have to be present.

If someone else is flying and you're not (as the cardholder), they can only get in if they hold a supplementary card under the same account. You get 2 card entries per calendar year across your entire account (i.e. having one supplementary card doesnot give you 4x access per calendar year).

Whether or not they would allow someone else to get in using a card under your name? That I'm not sure..

To resurrect an old thread....I can access the QF J lounge using QF SG. Would you go with this lounge or the J lounge. I've generally been underwhelmed by the J lounge so considering giving this one a whirl.
