Beware if you get a TRS tax refund paid onto your AMEX.

any time I've had it paid back to my AMEX Plat Edge it has been processed by AMEX as an actual refund and so points have been deducted. Had to ring and get it fixed up (well, it should be... will be checking my account daily to see if/when the points show up)

Amex customer relations liverpool street25052014.jpg

What's the phone number for these people. Their answering machine says "This is American Express Liverpool Street Sydney. You have called the wrong number if you want [insert medical emergencies, etc etc] " On other occassions they're "closed, please call during business hours".

Thanks to this thread, I've checked my points - they credited correctly Mar 2014, but the last time they credited correctly was June 2013! Each month has had a different amount credited, from 0 to less than the amount owed, to hundreds of points over! No logic to it, but seem to be short about 250 points. Appears to be a problem with my local IGA, which doesn't have IGA in its name on my statements, but it credited correctly in Mar '14 and June '13. Name has not changed.

Will have to contact Amex.

I didn't think IGA counted for the 3 pts?

How do I check my points back earlier than 90 days?

Erm it is a refund - so thats right that points get credited.

Personally i always give my debit card for TRS refunds (regardless of how i purchased the items i'm claiming) as it's as good as a cash refund in to my bank account

IGA definitely does (I double checked). Check points on statements - if you don't have them, you can download them from the website (note that you need to wait 24 or 48 hours for the ones older than 2 or 3 months).

that is what I will do in future, and while I know it is in actuality a refund, it should be treated as a deposit/payment into the account by AMEX. I might have paid for the items in cash, or on another card not that AMEX - so only a refund of an AMEX purchase should subtract points earned.
