Question for Singaporeanites - what is it with many SIN taxis accepting AMEX bot accepting Visa?

I asked one dude last week and he said his group did formerly accept Visa but no longer - he thought that merchant fees too high with Visa. Any clues good people?

Six times round the island driver...;)

Called in this morn to local Caltex which is zero surcharge for AMEX - owner told me from Jan 1 2.2% surcharge on ALL AMEX in ALL Caltex servos - Visa / MC fee free.

I got slugged for this recently, when my WISH gift card failed to function correctly. I asked when it had come in and was told a couple of months ago but I hadn't noticed since I exclusively use 5% discounted WISH cards.

The flip side, although introduced some time ago, is the acceptance of Myer One as well as EDR. The former keeps SWMBO happy.

Yessiree - I am serious - why do some taxis in SIN accept AMEX and not VISA? It seems totally cough about compared to Oz?

They had a spat with Visa, it's only one company, comfort, IIRC. Complaints about the surcharging for cards and VISA pulled the plug.

Harris Farm now accepts Amex according to email today....but will it post as a supermarket?

Harris Farm is a green grocer, not a supermarket.

And if you are talking about the Edge card:

"Participating retailers include the following merchants who have been classified as "major supermarkets": Bi-Lo, Safeway, Woolworths, Coles, IGA, Fishers, Fresh Provisions, Food For Less, Supabarn, Macro Wholefoods"

Thomas Dux (also part of the Woolies group) also pays 3 ppd on the Platinum Edge.

No CE Amex and Costco will be over. Amex missed the bid and their shares fell on the news. Only for 468 stores so far multiplied by about $180 million a store equals OUCH!!

Yes but there are quirks eg Dan's posting as 2 points for no obvious reason (when you've forgotten your WISH card)

Dans will post 3 points if you order online. Do it via the Pricepal link and you will get between 4 -9% off the bill to your Pricepal acct. Get referred to PP for a $20 credit. The list goes on and on.;)
