Mechanic does not take Amex as they charge him 2.2%.
Had to have a new stereo fitted, same deal, installer does not take Amex as also 2.2% merch fee. At times like these use Citi Signature.

I wonder if there's some kind of foreign V/MC that would attract an equally high rate, that they would have to accept. Feeling spiteful :-)

The fee Amex charge me to accept it is less than a premium visa/mastercard. They would get a better rate than that just by asking.

We have started sending some freight with Northline - paid first bill today - 3.5% on AMEX / 0% on Visa - they are a substantial company so really hard to fathom.

And they are probably not paying anywhere near 3.5% to Amex. I would report them to Amex!

Thanks for the reminder to report a couple of high turnover businesses that have recently imposed 3% surcharge. I sometimes wonder if Amex is simply gouging these merchants. That said I would still like the points. ;)
Edit: Amex must take a firm line on merchant fees as I have never had a result in the past.

I wonder where strata fees sit? I imagine DEFT is another organization with high turnover. I find it hard to imagine they can't get a merchant rate better than 1.5% on MC/V or 3% for Amex.

Great idea. I just submitted the report for Deft to Amex so hopefully between the two of them they could reduce the fee

I submitted a report for Everyday Gift Cards since they have stopped accepting Amex, despite all of the Woolies Group stores accepting it.

Deft is owned by Macquarie so unfortunately unlikely to see them lower it :(

NICE! It makes absolutely no sense that they don't! It was the only reason I signed up to racq!

And the response from Amex......

We have reached out to https://www.membergiftcards.com.au/rac. However, they have chosen not to accept American Express Cards at this time.
