Got a new car battery from NRMA. They wanted 3% for Amex!

It's been like that for sometime with NRMA. I used to have my car serviced with NRMA but stopped when they introduced fees for all credit cards, including the 3% for AMEX.

Because the car battery guys are contractors, and subcontractors of NRMA, ie. they are their own sole trader, and small business thus they will get slug with the fee of the merchant. Battery guys are not employed by NRMA directly.

Charged 3% at Roger David today - almost got away with her not noticing, didn't realise there was a surcharge anyway sigh

So how does Regional Express get away with not offering a fee free option as well as not disclosing the internet booking fee in the advertised price online?

Likely nobody has noticed or cared enough about it to complain - but when the ACCC found Jetstar and Virgin Australia were doing similar at one point regarding other fees and charges, legal action was taken in regards to 'drip pricing', which sounds an aweful lot like what Rex does.

Just checked REX web site. It does mention all the surcharges right below the headline prices, and there are 2 payment methods which does not attract surcharges - cash at airport or cash at headquarter (which are stupid. who does that?). They are are walking on the line?

Two can play at that game - pay them in $1 coins ;)

Good luck with that:

'A payment of coins is a legal tender throughout Australia if it is made in Australian coins, but this is subject to some restrictions about how much can be paid in coin. According to the Currency Act 1965 (section 16) coins are legal tender for payment of amounts which are limited as follows:
  • not exceeding 20c if 1c and/or 2c coins are offered (these coins have been withdrawn from circulation, but are still legal tender);
  • not exceeding $5 if any combination of 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c coins are offered; and
  • not exceeding 10 times the face value of the coin if $1 or $2 coins are offered.'
RBA Banknotes: Legal Tender

Quoted that Act many a time in my junior cash handling days. One of the rare times it pays off having parents who are lawyers.

with amex dropping their merchant fees, wouldn't that mean their points will devalue too? they must get it back from somewhere..

Sheraton Melbourne buffet tonight - visa 1.1% mc0.8% Amex 2.9% 01497529965.jpg

Sent feedback to @spgassist that was pretty rich given the alliance between Starwood and Amex
