Paypal will only ever yield 1ppd so don't be tempted to use Paypal for an online hotel booking, for example, as you will not get your bonus ppd.

My explorer linked to ascent earns 2ppd for everything

A nice change.
I went to Relay at Terminal 3 SYD today to top up my Opal taking advantage of the Travel Essentials offer of $10 credit for $20 spend. This store charges 1% for Mastercard and Visa an 0% for Amex. They told me that they have a good deal with Amex so don't need to charge.

OK so F U Medibank private. They have removed the post billpay details from the payment details and they tell you to go to their website.

OK so it is a pain in the cough to find the link to pay. I am assuming they have removed the paypal option but when I did find the payment page, they redirect me to bloody post billpay page.

To save others time, the Billpay code is 0824. I think I am moving to HCF.

I normally just open the pdf bill on the screen, then scan the barcode with the Australia Post app to pay.

Quay restaurant in Sydney. Amazing food but a 1.5% credit card surcharge. Really! I mean, really!! Considering the mark up, that is a cheek.

Had the same experience at Otto. Can’t imagine their margins are so tight that have to surcharge or else they’d close. Pure opportunism.

That's exactly it. If 1.5% is the difference between business success or failure then it's a cough business model to start off with.

Quay restaurant is a participating restaurant of the good food gift card which is often discounted by 10% + discounted wish gift card at woolworths.

If you frequent these establishments you should consider purchasing some of the gift cards this week (ends Tuesday midnight). I've bought about $600 this year, I like Mamak.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure Quay is somewhere I'll be frequenting given its cost (and location) but I haven't ever thought about the Good Food Gift card. I did buy some Crown gift cards last year on an Amex statement credit offer which I used at Dinner by Heston.

@foggy ....I eat at Mamak almost weekly :). Is the "good food gift card" on sale (10% off) at Woolies atm?...I could use my Amex Edge to get 3x points :)

Yes it is. You only have 2 days!
Find a Restaurant in New South Wales, NSW - Good Food Gift Card
That's for NSW, a list of participating restaurants.
Thanks! I just looked up my local WoW catalogue....I don't see a 10% sale of good food gift cards til Oct 31st but I see a earn 2000 WoW Reward points (=870 QF points) for each $100 gift card bought :). edit: Ok got it as alternatively, 2000 Wow points gets you $10 off a future shop. Maxm of 10...hmmm ;)

Seems AMEX has removed the page from its website where you can 'report' businesses that don't take AMEX or that have a surcharge. The same page now says to use Live Chat do report the business. Tried that, and it took 10 minutes. Before that it would take 30 seconds at most to use the online form. How is the new approach possibly 'better'??

This explains why I couldn't find the relevant page the other week. Grrrr!

It seems as though they are no longer interested in dealing with businesses that surcharge. Although, I'm more interested in Amex dealing with the lying business owners who claim not to accept Amex, but when presented with no other choice for payment, all of a sudden relent and start moaning about the cost.

I use this page.

Take Amex
