Is there anyway to get this card with the earning over $100,000? I mean I don't mind paying the $900 fee and I beleive that in the US there is no minimum income needed to apply for the card as long as you pay the yearly fee. Do they verify the $100,000 income part per person?

Spizz,

I had a gold AMEX for 2 years, good payment history, reasonable spend and received a letter asking if I wanted to upgrade to platinum. I said yes, they sent out the card and my salary was never questioned by AMEX (and I was under $100k when I received the platinum card).

Of course you could.. but usually the "cancel" bit results in the points  that is if you spend enough on the card to be a worthwhile customer.

Just tried to do this but all I got was a $200 off offer...
pushed on and now have a special Customer Service person calling me back within 2-3 days.

Just verifiying this was for the Platinum Charge card, not the Platinum Credit Card?

i think they make exceptions for their good customers and they "upgraded" you to platinum because of your good history with them, whereas i think with new applicants such as myself, they would want $100k salary + per year.

Bugger. I applied last Tuesday and have heard nothing.

Wonder if I should be concerned?

Rang them yesterday, application was being held up because they were waiting for a copy of two recent payslips ... except they never actually asked for them. Faxed off now, looking good :)

I have just applied Amex Plat Charge card with 80K bonus on Sunday night and received the card today!

I have some questions though:

- Can I apply the free Platinum Reserve Credit card with the 35K bonus, then claim back on annual fee given that I should get it for free with Amex Plat Charge card? Or they will send me the free Plat Reserve card automatically?

- How long does the SPG Gold status come through after applying say tomorrow? I have a trip in mid Dec and want to use this if possible.

Just got email from Amex already confirming that my SPG membership has been upgraded to Gold. Check at spg.com and yes it is confirmed! That's fast given I only posted my SPG form to Austpost box on last Thursday! The Platinum team works fast!

Nice! here comes 80,000 points!!!

Yep, received the card in the mail on Monday.

Seems a bit crazy that you have to fill out and post in paper forms for all the extras (Priority Pass, SPG etc), haven't these guys heard of the internet?

Make the required spend ASAP, and hopefully you will be awarded the 80K pts without having to chase them!;)

Mine I got with free QFF 75K points late 2010 is due next month for renewal, like to know if I can cancel and take up new card with the 80K??. if not bye bye AMEX.

There is an AMEX Platinum "Charge" Card which converts to QFF at 1:1 and an AMEX Platinum Reserve/Edge "Credit" Cards which does not convert to QFF.

somewhat confused...my Platinum charge card and Reserve credit card both post reward points together. I've never done a transfer of the accumulated points yet but yesterday I was looking at the platinum website, then my rewards points account. It had just QF as nominated partner for transfers. So I added SQ. All that was required was SQ membership number and I had 'acceptance'.
So that point I'm making is that points are accumulated for both cards into one account and then it's up to account holder to decide which program to transfer them to. (You can select other airline and hotel partners, of course.)

I had a Platinum reserve credit card and received an offer for a 'free' Gold Charge card. Points from both transfer to to the same MR account @1½ points/$ and @1 point/$.

Points from that MR account cannot be transferred to QFF.

That is obviously different from the MR account for a Platinum Charge card that comes with a free Platinum reserve credit card.

In the context of that post I was differentiating between The Platinum Charge/Reserve/Edge cards - only MR accounts that relate to the Platinum Charge card can transfer to QFF.

My understanding is that if you only have the Amex Reserve card you cannot transfer to Qantas but when combined you have the privileges of the Charge card which allow you to send points pretty much anywhere.

Sounds all good in my case.

Limewood same situation.
Called up to cancel (was planning to keep the plat credit @$395/yr)

First operator - $200 off fee.
Said no and continued to cancel. Then told a supervisor would call me back..

Result - $450 off. I was happy with that and didn't push on points.

Wow!

Received my Plat Charge card last Monday, made a few purchases last week.

Checked my account this morning and I've already been credited with the 80,000 bonus points :)

Seems contrary to people's reported previous experiences, let's hope this is a sign of good things to come.
