AMEX Platinum 80,000 bonus points offer

Nothing nix, OZ AMEX guy said he was a Senior and there was no deal to be done (on my AMEX platinum charge card), I even read out to him the threads here about discount and half price renewal said not true as it doesn't happen, if it was he would be authorised to do it, was nice to talk too though, very pleasant, he then said cut card up, this is your cancellation No., we will confirm all in writing, I said goodbye AMEX.

Strange - As long as you have a decent spend on the card you should have received 50,000 points or a $450 credit on your account.

By decent spend I mean about $50,000 a year or more on the card/s that you have with them

Last time I called I was put through to cancellations who are a separate area. Mind you at the time I was going to cancel my cards over a dispute with them.

At the end of the day though, the plat card costs $900 pa not $450 or whatever you may get discounted. You should expect to pay it (having said that I have just paid that last month).

We are happy with the $200 credit we were offered recently after phoning the cancellation section.
Add in the four supplementary cards (all with travel insurance) and the free return DJ airfare which comes with the Reserve card and I feel we have got our money's worth.

I'm getting nowhere with Amex as well with my renewal and I too have racked up about the $50k mark.

They did say the $900 will be charged this month and to be paid in January....so I might give it a crack in a couple of weeks time. If not, move all my points across to QFF then see you later Amex.

Amex well and truly looked after me this time!

I only used the $50k figure as a benchmark for previous years, it would seem they have clamped down on just discounting/points to keep customers, unless you have an even higher spend

Doesn't really matter I suppose if you don't care about the "Member since" on the card and your credit file getting another inquiry listed there, just wait 6-9 months and sign up again with whatever offer they might be running by then.

Never ever ever in any details with any credit card organisation or airline mention this board - it's information and advice and what you might be able to achieve / target, but for some reason it might not apply to you and you don't want to ruin it for everyone else. Suck it up, cut up the card and move on - you will get another deal in the future.

Received my Plat Charge card last Monday, made a few purchases last week.

Checked my account this morning and I've already been credited with the 80,000 bonus points

Seems contrary to people's reported previous experiences, let's hope this is a sign of good things to come.

Had mine about 6 weeks - had first bill and paid it, and spent c. $10k so far but no sign of 80k points - will have to chase....

I've had my Platinum charge card since November 11 and the 80,000 bonus points were added to my account on November 15, the day I passed the $500 spend.

Got my 80K points as well, just got the card in November and spent more than $500. No need to chase Amex which is great!

So here is my history with this application:

Mind you: I just moved to Oz 5 weeks ago, HSBC however gave me a 18k Limit MC through their Premier Service.

Applied for Platinum Edge because I was either blind or stupid and didn't see the Charge Card Offer for 80k. No email, no snail mail for 2 weeks... Calling in: 'Oh we need you to send in ID verification'. Great that somebody tells me that 2 weeks after application and only after I call them. Sent them the stuff via fax, again no response. Called again: ID Number two is 'a bit dark'. :evil: Sent everything in the mail. Then I saw the offer for the 80k Charge Card. Called in and talked to 'new accounts', they said they cant switch the application, new one necessary. Fair enough. The old application put on hold, applied online and called back - got the same lady who was very pleasant to talk to (unlike the other matrons I had on the line before). Few Minutes on hold, she approved the application on the spot. That was Wednesday. Waiting for the package to arrive now. I live in the Sydney area, any experience when it should be in my mailbox? They say 5-7 Working Days Australia-wide...

I think this is a great deal even with a 900$ fee (which I admit is a bit steep compared to what AX charges in other countries). 80k Points, Priority Pass, Insurance Products (by the way, does this card have car rental insurance??), some hotel status IIRC but it doesnt apply to me as I'm already Top Tier with SPG. The Reserve Card which is supposedly included would bring the free flight on DJ. Sweet!

Did anyone take advantage of Cathay Pacific Gold for one year? They have this promo in EU and North America at least.

Will I pay 900$ next year? Probably not, though I will put all my charges on this card the next 12 Months as HSBC Rewards SUCK big time. Maybe AX gives me a discount for the annual fee 12 months from now.

I got mine mid oct and still no 80k
but it does say in the t and cs 8 weeks after receiving the card
or 8 weeks after the 2 mths i cant figure which
but interesting that others got the 80k as soon as they spent the $500.
I think ill follow it up mid week.

I applied for mine on a Monday morning and was told straight away that it was approved. I live in Sydney and received the pack with the cards on the Thursday - only 3 days!
