When was that? I managed to get the 50k bonus points last year (December) and I will try again this year but from what I've been reading earlier in the thread they no longer offer anything to stay... so I'd be interested to learn if the 50k bonus points were offered to you recently or early in the year...
3 days ago it was in the account in 10 mins.
I was very surprised.
it took all of 1 minute.

Got the person's name by any chance? My fee should be posted onto my account during December...

I am about the cancel my card in a few weeks time...

only down side is all the items i bought on Amex hoping to use its extended warranty feature would now be void.

Also, my renewal charge would come through in Dec, i suppose it's not too late for me to cancel it once i see that charge on the statement?

Once the renewal annual fee comes on to the statement, you can still cancel it but make sure you do before the payment is due - this is what I did and they happily took it off.

Has anyone been offered anything recently with the threat of cancelling?

Are we paying for ads to tell us where to go? Gee, I better send Chad a bill for $1200 for telling him where to go.

Dam, and that email was only dated yesterday. I was soooo looking forward to being the Champ of my local Safeway, as they throw me a Parade and shower me with rose petals

I better run down to Amex and throw $1200 at them - in sharp 50c pieces. :p

Sorry Vet,
I thought you meant Chad Wells of Amex Platinum Travel,…not the guy that signed the letter!!!

just went to buy a tv from a store and an extra 2.5% for my amex. Hmmmm are we ever going to see any change for the positive? I'm very deflated by this increase and the amount of surcharge we pay and the lack of points. from my understanding when amex changed the points structure it wasn't based on whats good for us. My understanding is they did a heap of modelling to work out what was the cheapest option for them. why can't we just have a decent card with decent benefits for a medium cost. Just spoke to amex and their care factor is zero.

Slightly off-topic and a rather OzBargain-isque technique, you could've just grabbed the brouchure/catalog/the salesbloke's name card with the price written on the back of it and head to your nearest DJ/Myer and ask for a price match. Saves you the 2.5% straight off the bat. In fact if you've got multiple cards with the Amex DJ offer, you're ahead even...

(no wonder they haven't sent me a Centurion invite yet  )

Finally got off my butt and called them up to see if they can do anything about the annual fee.

The first operator seems defensive about the whole thing so I thought stuff this, let's escalate it to her supervisor. Her supervisor is a little more pleasant to deal with but at the end, she's rather relentless in her pursue to read me their script which I've read numerous times on here. Though I was offered 7k MR points straight off the bat (like seriously? That's just $70 worth) and upped the ante to 10k points. Not good enough I thought. Grabbed the Exec Customer Service details (funny how they're still using fax and snail mail!) so will word something up and flip it to them first thing Monday morning.

I've had numerous issues with ACE, Lifestyle Concierge and their E-mail team in the past 18 months and made it pretty clear I wouldn't bother with asking for some sort of incentives if I'm 100% satisfied with their customer service.

If you feel it's worth keeping the card then don't be shy, push it to the limit. With cards like Earth Black out their at $395 and 40k bonus points for signing up AMEX Platinum (and Centurion for that matter) is an endangered species.

They've just signed upto a punative class action settlement with US merchants as the US DoJ is, somehow, looking into where all those points went that made their way to Aus in the infamous 5k/5t promo. F'd if I'm paying big bucks for an overpriced card.

Folks,

Sorry that I dropped off the radar so to speak after raising the suggestion of escalating this back in November.
(Wife's father died later that month after a long and sad battle with Parkinson's - so everything dropped out of gear.)

From what I can see here by reviewing the posts on this topic - there are about 30-35 of us left that are still considering cancelling our Amex Plat Charge Cards. Beyond this post I am not sure about how many of the status of the remaining AFF members.

Amex generally seems to be adopting a "don't care" attitude - would an AFF approach fare any better?

regards

Rono

Maybe - Highly unlikely.

Amex attitude is they are enhancing the benefits for the added cost. If you were to say, as I did, that you don't use/need all those benefits, then they answer you should consider their other products.
