Amex platinum Charge annual fee increase

keith on pointhacks describes some people having success with getting both the plat edge and plat reserve as "companion" cards with the plat charge. reading through most of what i can on a few threads it appears most have had success with either one but not both? anyone have success getting both?

if given a choice which would you guys pick? the edge gives more variety in terms of point earn whereas the earn on the reserve is very similar to the charge - however i suppose the reserve has more options for the free flight, and also the opportunity to use that flight or get a free nights stay if i did my research right.

i think you will find that the Platinum Reserve is no longer available.

it's not available for general application anymore but still remains as a companion card option only on the plat charge card. happy to be corrected on that though.

It sure does for existing Platinum Charge cardholders (I have one in my wallet) however it's no longer officially advertised by AMEX for new Plat Charge applications, although apparently if you call AMEX after your activate the Plat Charge and ask for the complementary Reserve they will email you an application form (it may take some sweet talking...). Friend of mine did it earlier this year, not sure if they still do it currently...

if not... then would you guys go for the reserve or the edge... the latter giving wider variety of points earn options however the reserve giving more benefits

just got off the phone with amex CS about getting a companion card - was straightforward getting the reserve as a free companion card however tried to explain how i'd prefer the Edge with its different point structure. Couldn't convince them to give me the edge despite trying to say it had a lower annual fee anyway

anyone else have success with that?

i might end up doing that as well. rather disappointing as i don't intend to be flying to NZ every year so that more versatile free flight doesnt mean much to me, much rather the varied points structure

i had my hopes up as pointhacks described the edge as standard rather the reserve... and even incidents of people having success getting both cards
