Have anyone got their 75k points yet?

I've spent 10k in the last couple of weeks and was looking forward to the points

HI all,
I am newcomer to the forum and novice in the use of frequent flyer points. I have learned quite a bit from you guys and thank you for that.
I have taken the AMEX 75K offer and it took quite considerable (over 3 months) to get the points credited. It took me several phone calls being the last one when I mentioned the name ACC as advising me to talk to the "responsible person" for the program. A more senior consultant came on to the phone quite apologetic and awarded me 5k for my trouble and next day my 75K were credited.
Lately, also discussed the options on the complementary credit card and just signed in for that. Hopefully booking the free flight before the end of the credit card year-life.
I did take the offer making some back of the envelope calculations for the value of the points (which I am using on QFF) and thougth it was a good offer. However, I just wonder how does one justify a $900 maintanence for that. It seems a bit much. Probably is the travel insurance that justifies that? I would appreciate opinions from you as to why paying that much given that the concierge service (which they so emphasise) doesn't appear to be very useful. At this point, I am considering dropping it at the end of the annual subscription.

Thanks Straitman,
That is a very useful thread. They should probably be linked.

I am confused about whether this promotion is really open until March 2011?
I had decided to take it up but leave it until march to apply. But I just checked the promo letter I received in November it says apply by 15 January to get the 75 k points. Have looked on the Amex web site today and cant find any reference to the promo.

Does the 75 k point offer apply automatically to all new applications, or do I need a promo code to apply online?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I also have a few questions re benefits - apologies if these are covered in the other thread.
Does the supplementary card holder (wife) receive the travel insurance cover?
Can the free flight be transferred to wife if she is a supplementary card holder?

Yes all supplementary card holders (when travelling togerther or on their own) and their immediate families (non-supplementary) who travel togerther with the primary cardholder get insurance coverage. The beauty of the plat charge insurance is that you don't have to purchase anything using it - it covers you automatically, unlike most other credit card travel insurances where you must purchase part or all of the amount on the card before you're covered.

Free flights can be used by anyone.

Thanks benhadi

Just to clarify - I can actually follow the link from the OP to the "wish upon a star site". Still seems to be active, and does say 'apply by march 2011". But my letter definitely says apply by Jan 15th, hence the confusion.

Hi Latin, when did you apply for the card and when did you get the 75k points credited? I applied in October 10 and haven't gotten my 75k points yet

+1

I knew it up front that I won't be getting the 75k till this offer is over in March but any way to make this credited to my account sooner will be great

I tried a few times getting my 75K points having not seen the March deadline, got nowhere.

Hi Ermen,
I applied in September and completed the requirements (spend A$500 before the end of that month) and the credit should have happened 6 weeks later. I got them credited after various phone calls in early December. Before that I was given various evasive answers in the line that the management of points were dealt with by the promotions department and not the Platinum Service themselves. After talking to a more senior person in the call centre and mentioning that I enquired about my rights with the ACC they very quickly acted and I got the points credited within 24 hours. You may need to push for them to act. Every offer appears to be different and you need to check the details of the offer you responded to and use that to make your claim. My offer said that points would have been credited following 6 weeks after the completing elegibility criteria.

Hi Limewood,

I concur, Sept applied .... fulfilled requirements...2 phone calls...was asked IF I applied on the net..... yes...was told no code on application...I said Here We Go Again!!! in reference to promo that they mucked a few years ago ,was told they would get back to me.[no call back] Then the 75k credited to my account two weeks ago :D Keep at them:evil:

Cheers & Good Luck M.P.

I have a friend that just signed on to the card. Apparently their points redemption program is top notch (earns more points that most other cards) but its not accepted everywhere

I recently joined up with Platinum Edge to take advantage of the 20,000 bonus points offer. Have fulfilled condition of spending $500 in first two months - but will need to wait a few months after March 1 to get those points credited...

If I upgraded to an "original" Platinum CC to get the 75,000 points - reckon they'll still give me the 20,000 points?

If you pay the $900...plus the original $149..then I would imagine that you will get 20K + 75 K, plus the two flights.

If however you "upgrade" and negotiate a fee reduction on the Charge Card then I think recent experience would suggest no extra 75K.

Many of us recently had the choice ofa cheaper fee ($500 from memory), or full fee with the 75K. I opted for the 75K as it is worth more to me than $400.

When the card comes due for renewal...............will have to reassess.

Thanks for that!

Sounds reasonable. I also think of 75k > discount - in my mind 75k points is the equivalent of at least $25,000 spend - assuming you spent all of that at major supermarkets and paid for it using your Platinum Edge...so from that perspective it looks like a really good deal! Covers you for 27 years of membership fees!

Anybody else think like that?

I don't follow your maths.

27 X $900 = $24,300

75,000 points is say half a J return to Europe = say $ 2000-$4000.

I personally do not value points at full retail J Fare as I would, if I had to buy, shop around for a "special" price.

ie one could fly Emirate J return to Brussels for $3500 return on a recent special (very time limited though), though this was unusually cheap and so I would value points as worth more than this one example.
