In my opinion, the protocol should be that referrers make a post here offering to refer, and for people requesting a referral simply pick any person they like and send them a PM to request the referral.

So here's me throwing my hat into the ring, LOL.

Also, there's a list going over on the OzBargain wiki (disclaimer: started by me) where you can add yourself as a referrer:

Ah yes, maybe a conga!

You do realise that Amex can click on the link and discover from that your card number and hence take action for breaching T&C if they have a mind to.....

Yeah, but it's one of those "signing up new customers" things that companies usually turn a blind eye to unless they're starting to lose big, and given the number of signups I've achieved through that method to date (i.e. a big fat zero) I don't think I'm in any danger.

How you going with that opportunity zzyss?

Back on topic, referral request have gone quiet. Are there greener pastures with other cards atm or have people just gone off Amex? I am still delighted with the earn rate of Plat Edge.

At first glance maybe but that needs to be weighed against the average annual points earn and then seat buying power. Lets say you shopped $300 each week at supermarkets and spent $150 on fuel. That aspect of your expenses would net you 46,800 points and 15,600 points respectively. Total = 62,400 in 12 months. Even without your other everyday spending you are a large part toward a business return ticket on MH to Europe. This will cost you 102,000 points or the equivalent of around $8,000 retail. What's not to like about that!!!

Edit: I should add that my average spending pattern is probably a little below the common average. My fuel spend is less than the example and we would only eat out around every 2nd week. I take advantage of bonus offers and only use the Amex at larger retailers. My last 12mths earn would be close to 200k points. Remember also that there is a domestic return flight offered in the $190pa card fee. All in all not bad imo.

I've read more than half the pages in this post but still unsure about this 1 point.
Does the referee get both the referral points as well as the sign on bonus?
I've a platinum reserve and if I refer someone to the platinum charge card, they get 60k points for being referred. Platinum charge is running a promo with 80k sign on bonus. Does that mean they get 140k points? I tried ringing Amex membership services but she was as vague as it gets.
140k points for $1200 sounds like an awesome deal to me. Plus free amex reserve card with a free flight.

It means they get 60k points, so in fact if you refer them they get less than if they were to apply themselves without a referral. Without a referral they would get 80000 points for the charge card.
