I applied for this card last year but was turned down due to them not being able to verify my identity..though they managed to pull my credit file ;/
Does anyone know if they use the electoral roll as part of the process? at the time i wasn't on the electoral roll and also didn't have a drivers licence thus was relying on a newly obtained passport and a medicare card.
I easily meet the financial criteria, base pay of 70k, actual earnings closer to 90-95k. I also have savings as i am looking to buy a property in the next few months so i cannot see a financial reason for the rejection, nor am i overloaded with credit, i have one 2k card, credit file is also clean, only 1 telecom listing, 1 current cc and the amex app, no defaults etc.
Once i'm confident they'll be able to verify my details i'll grab a referral from someone here, just don't want futile credit checks as i don't want homeloan lenders thinking i'm desperate for cash, i want to start accruing points for future trips to HKG and HNL in the next couple of years.
I think they go off drivers licenses to identify you. I have had some issues with my official name not matching my license name whilst applying for a 28 degrees card.
They informed me that the info I provided does not match my veda report and advised me to check my credit file. They ended up approving my 28 degrees card anyway.
One thing to consider which you have mentioned too is that if you plan to get a home loan within the next year, its best to refrain from any credit checks / cc applications if you can help it![]()
Hi Freddy, my advice would be to apply again. If they knock you back again then get on the phone and see if they will complete the application whilst you are talking to them. They did this with my application and th operator has a bit of discretion in applying the rules. This should not be necessary with the income you have indicated.
Why not apply via the referral process and get some extra points for your troubles? I am happy to refer you, just pm me if interested.![]()
Hi mate, i'm definitely feeling more confident about it now, if you want to pm me your referral link, once i've thought about the homeloan/credit checks i may just click it and send through an application.

+1
This sounds like the sensible thing to do, unless you have some extraordinary reason to have an AMEX immediately.
Regardless of whether you are successful or not, any credit applications will add an enquiry to your file. If you only have 1-2, then this might be ok but lenders can be unhappy once you have a few (obviously this number varies depending on the circumstances). A 10 basis point difference in a home loan may not mean much initially but over 20-30 years, it does add up.
Not to mention most CC companies have signup offers with 0% interest balance transfer offers that you can take advange of, which is a good way to offset some of the debt you owe on your home loan but this again is only possible once you get the home loan.
I think he meant if you want to be referred![]()
