AMEX rejection

I know of 2 people who have been rejected lately on the AMEX Platinum Personal, one had applied twice and is on circa $130k pa and the other circa $150k.

Interestingly, the minimum $100k annual salary is gone, is there now a new criteria? or are the trying to close the gap between Platinum and Centurion?

Eligibility
To apply for The Platinum Card you need to:
  • Have no history of bad debt or payment default
  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or hold a long term visa
  • Agree to a credit check as part of your application
yes but what was their history of opening/closing cards like? I think a history of churning or them thinking that is the issue for most people not salaries.

My P2 got approved for the plat charge on well under $100k salary.

It has been gone for a few years. All the banks have done away with listing minimum incomes from what I've seen.

Thought listing minimum incomes was just a way to make some cards more "exclusive" than others such as the Citi Prestige was advertising a minimum income with its $700 AF. Though I imagine there's a reasonable correlation between AF and someone's income to be more likely to pay the AF being asked for (never hurts to ask for a discount as we've seen on AFF). Though you're right, even Citi/NAB no longer lists an income requirement for the Prestige. YMMV.

I think they have been churning cards and one had a Personal Platinum and cancelled as they 'didnt need it' and then wanted it again

Not so, some banks do mention minimum annual income as part of the eligibility criteria.

Apologies, I had thought they had all done away with them but have seen Westpac still has minimums. And I knew Qantas Money has minimums but had forgotten, e.g. $200k for the Titanium.

I believe the other majors (ANZ, St George, NAB) no longer list them.

Email from Amex today, credit limit of $4800 declined as I do not meet their "internal selection criteria".
FWIW I have replied asking them to shed some light on this 🤷‍♀️
