AMEX rejection

I know of 2 people who have been rejected lately on the AMEX Platinum Personal, one had applied twice and is on circa $130k pa and the other circa $150k.

Interestingly, the minimum $100k annual salary is gone, is there now a new criteria? or are the trying to close the gap between Platinum and Centurion?

Eligibility
To apply for The Platinum Card you need to:
  • Have no history of bad debt or payment default
  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or hold a long term visa
  • Agree to a credit check as part of your application
yes but what was their history of opening/closing cards like? I think a history of churning or them thinking that is the issue for most people not salaries.

My P2 got approved for the plat charge on well under $100k salary.

It has been gone for a few years. All the banks have done away with listing minimum incomes from what I've seen.

Thought listing minimum incomes was just a way to make some cards more "exclusive" than others such as the Citi Prestige was advertising a minimum income with its $700 AF. Though I imagine there's a reasonable correlation between AF and someone's income to be more likely to pay the AF being asked for (never hurts to ask for a discount as we've seen on AFF). Though you're right, even Citi/NAB no longer lists an income requirement for the Prestige. YMMV.

I think they have been churning cards and one had a Personal Platinum and cancelled as they 'didnt need it' and then wanted it again

Not so, some banks do mention minimum annual income as part of the eligibility criteria.

Apologies, I had thought they had all done away with them but have seen Westpac still has minimums. And I knew Qantas Money has minimums but had forgotten, e.g. $200k for the Titanium.

I believe the other majors (ANZ, St George, NAB) no longer list them.

Email from Amex today, credit limit of $4800 declined as I do not meet their "internal selection criteria".
FWIW I have replied asking them to shed some light on this 🤷‍♀️

Mrs Moo just rejected for Qantas Ultimate.
Perfect credit history, never had an Amex prior, not a churner whatsoever, salary could be an issue as works 3 days permanently p/week.

Got the 5-10 day email, but called 2 days later going over q&A's from application, answered as per application but told no goer.

Why not just send email rejection.

Has any churner had success in getting an Amex card?
Was pointed to this thread, reassuring to know (but poor nonetheless) that it's not just me (plus friends plus OH haha). All have keep trying, myself included, all continually rejected, until a couple of weeks ago I finally got an auto-approve for QF Ultimate. First AU Amex since Covid. Have kept churning the regulars throughout that time, so literally nothing different on my file (which they don't appear to search anyway) except a closed mortgage account (which isn't it, because OH is still being rejected).

Anyway, seems there was light at the end of the tunnel this time, at least.

Just to add my data point, I've just been rejected for the Qantas Ultimate card.

As per other posters, I received the "5-10 working days" email, with no further info requested. I phoned up after a couple of days and was told I'd been rejected.

As per other people's experiences, I've never been rejected for a credit card before.

I open and close about 3 credit cards a year, so I guess maybe I've been identified as a churner.

Applied for the Platinum Charge over the weekend on Sunday. Currently hold an Amex. Explorer card with 10k limit for approx 4 years now.

Have another 15k credit card with Virgin Money. Churned approx 7 cards last year and none this year.

Approved immediately and card expected to arrive Wednesday

This is good news, although I suspect the acceptance criteria is looser for those who won't receive a sign-up bonus.

I was going to say yeah as holding another Amex you won't receive the sign up bonus wad of points.

What's the use of a new card without the wad of sign up points?

I'll be looking to reapply next month after a rejection for the Plat Charge in October 2024, and a rejection for the QF Ultimate in March 2024.

I'm not fussed which card I apply for - Just want to increase my chances of success. Does anybody think one card is more likely to be approved over the other? I'm just carrying a single card at the moment being the Citi Prestige with a $20,000 limit.

Cheers,

MrsDaver6 just applied and was approved for the QF Ultimate card. She was rejected a couple of times about 18-24 months ago for no good reason. Suspect they saw her as a churner. She churned Visa cards two months ago yet today's application approved.

Make of that what you will.
