Well how do they verify income for those of us that had our approval given within 60 seconds of applying onlne?

Obviously they do not, the probably only look at the credit score and if it's above a certain threshold + other requirements are met (e.g. quoted stable employment history, long time at the same address, quoted income >> quoted monthly expenses) they give instant approval, if credit score is below the threshold you are referred and they'll start asking for proof of income etc...

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

So after you achieve the min spend the points basically get signup points get credited immediately?

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Points show on Amex website basically immediately, but don't transfer to velocity immediately

So if they don't show up immediately I've got problems?

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Give it a day or so for the payment to show up in your transaction list before getting worried

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

I'm taking a domestic flight from Sydney this evening. I'm planning on using one of my two lounge passes that come with the amex platinum velocity card. I actually haven't physically received the lounge pass. I think I read somewhere that access will only be granted with presentation of my velocity card? Do they mean the velocity amex card or the actual velocity membership card? Also, if it is the latter, would my velocity number, boarding pass and drivers licence be enough to get in? I lost my velocity membership card a while back...

You won't - VA's lounge passes are electronic. Its a big PITA if you ask me because you can't gift them to anyone. When you already have status, or a suitable ticket (J or whatever) then these free lounge passes tend to go to waste.

I think I read somewhere that access will only be granted with presentation of my velocity card?

Yes, almost certainly true - they will use this to check you actually have a lounge pass. I suppose the same could be gleaned by using your velocity number in lieu of your card, don't know how strict their process is, valid velocity number on your boarding pass should be enough I'd have thought.

They mean the Velocity membership card.

I'd have thought so - but make sure the free passes are appearing on your web velocity account, then you shouldn't have any issues.

In my experience the lounge passes are loaded against your velocity membership. If you login you should be able to see them on your velocity dashboard.

If you are taking a Virgin flight your boarding pass and Velocity membership number should be all you need. My understanding (I think a comment was made earlier in this thread along these lines) is that your lounge passes are recorded on Virgin's system and you don't actually get passes sent to you. Staff at the lounge entry should be able to check your membership and see the passes listed against your name. If in doubt ring Virgin.

Edit:
From the AMEX T&Cs:
5.
You may access Virgin Australia lounges a maximum of two hours prior
to your Virgin Australia flight’s scheduled departure time.
6.
To redeem your complimentary single entry pass to Virgin Australia
lounges you must present your Velocity membership card together with
your flight itinerary or boarding pass for onward domestic travel with
Virgin Australia.
12.
Please allow up to 10 business days after your American Express Velocity
Card activation or American Express Velocity Card
anniversary date for your complimentary single entry Virgin Australia
lounge passes to be processed on to the Basic Card Member’s Velocity
membership card.
14.
American Express Velocity Card Members can check the status of their
complimentary single entry Virgin Australia lounge passes online by
logging in to their Velocity Account at virginaustralia.com/velocity

A question in relation to the free flight. How soon after you have Activated your card can you book the free flight. Asking for a friend who is looking at taking up the offer and believes its a 12 month wait. I'm sure that can't be correct.

I'm 99.99% sure you can use the flight right away, probably even before your card arrives in the mail. If you wait 12 months after activation to try and use your 'free' flight you'll likely lose it ... it only has 12 months validity then you get your next years flight. 1 every 12 months, lost if not used.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

I thought that you had to book the flight within the 12 month period of time - not take the flight within the 12 months?

Yes, you are correct. I said 'use' but I should have said 'book' :)

Sorry if this has already been covered but is there any problems getting the bonus points if you have been a supplementary card holder in the past 12 months?

I have read through and cant find anyone discussing how the referral mechanics works. I asked my father to refer me by the below link and he followed the link but it only asked for his details not mine. What did we do wrong?

The link you generate is yours. It is specific to you.

That's good to know. I've got a booking to make as soon as my Amex transfer (from my Plat Edge - ha ha) that I did yesterday hits my account.
