Sorry for the double up there, I didn't think the last one went through. The reason I ask is, I applied for this card and said No to existing Amex Cards, but I have one already. Will they know that I have an existing card and then not give me the points? Just wondering if anyone else has done this too?

I had an existing card when I applied and told them about it on the application. My new card says "member since 2013" which is when I applied for my Plat. Edge. I got the bonus points.

Not sure what will happen if you lie about having a previous card though.

I said no even though I have one. The letter with my card referred to my existing card. Still got the points.

I suspect if you details match, yes they know. It seems unlikely that 2 people applying with the same DOB, Address etc etc are not the same person.. but I would not suggest trying to do the dodge on credit card applications.. but your choice

Yes there are a number a people that have reported on different threads that they said yes to existing cards and still received the bonus. I guess there is no guarantee and it would be very difficult to try and claim as the customer service agents simply quote the T&C's

Thanks Rob, a few people in this forum had said to say No but I wasn't sure what to do! Anyway great to hear it worked out for you :D Ta

Yes I used a referral link from someone else to initially get the card. It was approved straight away online. Although I have read some people are having trouble applying with referrals. I had 2 friends who applied and got a message to wait 5-7 days for a result. I wonder if this is normal?

When I applied the response was "you'll hear from us in 5-10 business days", and then the first thing I heard was my card in my letterbox exactly a week after I applied.

Great Ufens Thanks, my friends were close to the 65k salary amount so they're worried they will be on the fence for approval.

Has anyone heard that you can also chose if you want Virgin Points or Krisflyer points for this promotion. Someone was telling me you can transfer your points to Krisflyer at a different ratio if you prefer, but I couldn't see this anywhere in the T&C.

I finally figured out how to get my referral link, for anyone new to this card, here is some info about this card to save you digging through the 40 pages!!

Here is a map with the routes you can use your free virgin ticket on. I have been told by Amex that the free ticket is available straight away, not one year after you get the card:

I struggled to find the referral links on this forum so here they are if you're just starting out. You get 110000 points instead of 100000 points to join and the referring person gets 20000 points. Use the link above to set it up for yourself too. There's also a number of people who have existing Amex cards who applied for this card and were approved:

Plenty of AFF'ers have reported success without meeting the income requirements. It seems that a good credit score will mean they don't even verify income.

You can't choose to get Krisflyer miles, but once you get your Velocity points, you can then transfer them to Krisflyer miles, at 1.35 points per mile.

Some may wish to know that crediting the 'free' flight to EY Guest instead of Velocity may be beneficial.

I have Amex through Westpac and a DJ storecard. My online application was approved in 60 seconds, the card has arrived within a week. I referred my wife who also has Amex Westpac and DJ. She applied Saturday and was approved yesterday, so possibly due to the referral link application (although at the time I assumed it was due to the fact there would have been recent credit check activity at our address).

Hi Aussie Flyer,

What do you mean about crediting the free flight to EY Guest? :)

I read here that the amex free flight does not earn velocity points or status credits.

EY= Etihad... so im talking about Etihad Guest

For anyone who's using the Velocity eStore. I recently made a purchase on there which totalled $110 however it gave me 800 points and not the usual 2 points per $1. Not complaining, just hope it might help someone :)

According to estore:
The Velocity eStore will clearly outline how many Velocity Points you will earn. In most cases, this will be expressed as a number of Points earned per dollar spent. Generally all retailers will pay 2 points per $1 spent. For example, if a retailer is offering 2 Points per dollar spent, and your transaction total is $50, you can expect to receive 100 Points. All transactions typically exclude GST and Shipping when calculating Points.

However, if you pay with your amex, you should earn three in total.

Don't complain!

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Anyone here having issues with their account? I am use to Amex transactions taking a while to turn up on your account as we have other Amex cards but I am having trouble them showing up at all! My credit limit seems to be getting affected but thats about it. The account has been active for over two weeks.

I am puzzled - are you saying that the free flight will not earn points with Velocity but will earn points with Etihad? I find that difficult to believe. Do you have this in writing somewhere?

Perhaps a PM to the OP might be more helpful?
