Has anyone been able to book PER-MEL as their complimentary flight?
I understand it's not in their T&C's or the AMEX interactive map, just want to see if they were able to or not.

They recently devalued the card and removed the better flights (PER-ADL and PER-SYD) so even if this were once possible, I strongly doubt it is any more.

you can do Per - Mel if you use the free flight on the platinum edge card not the velocity card

Hey all, does anyone know how long it generally takes for the 20K bonuses for referring someone to show up? I've had three people sign up using my referral, but no bonus points shown up yet. The 110K showed up when I hit around $700 (so I wonder if they automatically count the $349 they charge at statement time to get to $1K) and other earning points are showing up quickly, but no bonus points.

Have a read of this thread:
Virgin Amex Velocity Platinum card now 110k points - Page 77
Referral has been delayed since late August for pretty much everyone I think. According to T&Cs, it says referral bonus takes 6-8weeks. So you'll have to wait atleast 8 weeks before taking it up with AMEX.

Yeah, everyone was receiving referral bonuses pretty quick after card approval, but for some unknown reason Amex are delaying points.

Well I think the fact they overpaid some people may have had something to do with this.

Mmm, I'm hoping too :) Lady I spoke with recently on the Velocity help line suggested I could go to SYD or MEL from PER ... so I'm hoping there is some back room flexibility. Current advertised destinations for PER based ppl are only Newman, Karratha, Port Hedland and Broome ... I mean for gods sakes, what a laugh.

If I can't get any joy with an under the counter deal then I'll book the most expensive looking flight intra WA and cancel right after hoping for a VA/Amex credit which I can then use for other flights. If _that_ doesn't work, and it mightn't now as they've tightened things up enormously, then this card will only last the year and even then, only for the 'free' points.

Just tried to book my complementary PER-SYD flight, but after going through all the verification steps and setting up a PIN, I was told by the recorded message "Our offices are closed. Please call back during normal business hours". This was 4pm western time, guess either I'm a sucker for being at work still at 4pm, or I'm not 'normal' :P.

Also the number I called on the back of the card is labelled "24 hour customer service", so all a bit strange!

Ahhh! This is my pet peeve at the moment. I'm hitting it more and more even with the large companies, they are standardising on EST and don't care that they have customers in WST.

Managed to book my complimentary PER-SYD flight this morning, no problems there - my requested flights numbers were available and it all went through smoothly on the phone.

On the flip side, the Virgin Australia website doesn't seem to let me do anything with my booking. The PNR is found, but I can't add my Velocity number (doesn't appear to have been added by AMEX when making the booking) and I can't choose a seat. I also tried to place an UpgradeMe bid (I'm keen to try The Business!), but it responded that the booking was ineligible, which surprised me - I thought it was only points-upgrades that weren't allowed with the complementary booking.

Anyone else been able to add Velocity numbers, choose a seat, or place an UpgradeMe bid with their complementary flight PNR?

I haven't tried with the complimentary flight, but I suspect the no-change-allowed is because an agent made the booking (ie; Amex) rather than direct and this is usually the case. You will probably succeed if you ring Amex back and ask them to select your seat and insert your velocity number. As for upgrades, well, I don't know these days, the complimentary flight seems to be its own little beastie that doesn't earn SC's or FF's, so perhaps its excluded from upgrades via money or points because it just won't fit 'the system'. I'd be pretty peeved anyway, paying for a J upgrade only to not receive a single SC. This is probably the main reason why many of us have traditionally booked, cancelled, then rebooked using the credit shell that remains in order to get a'normal' ticket which earns and can be upgraded.

I've yet to see any reports this year that this system still works however :(

PER-SYD? thought this was umpossible?

Looks like I jumped the gun and spoke too soon - I just checked again, and was able to choose seats (looks like I picked bad flights, I ended up choosing row 40 :/), the UpgradeMe Bid option also worked, but had a pricey minimum bid so don't think I'll go for it this time. It must just take a few hours for the booking to become fully active in their system.

It's a bit of a grey area, as there are inconsistencies between the T&Cs and the online map (of which there appear to be two different versions as well!). I summarised some of the differences in my post in the referral thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ocity-platinum-card-69071-53.html#post1295174

I'm pretty happy I was able to get PER-SYD, worth the annual fee easily! The flights I wanted were about $355 each way for a saver at the time I searched.

Your issue was that the ticket hadnt yet been issued.

The inconsistency in this whole thing is unbelievable. I have adopted the position of always ask and HUACA if at first you don't succeed.

Plenty of people report when calling up, you are told can't receive bonus points if existing customer already, yet when you apply online many have receive those bonus signup points.

The map says NO ! but the agent says YES.. Just proves the point again

So I was a bit hasty in applying for this card and completely forgot to use a referral link to gain the extra 10K points. Would there be any point in contacting AMEX to attempt to retrospectively apply a referral?

Hi there. Posted this in my introduction thred but maybe this will be a better bet. I have applied for the AMEX Velocity card, but I don't actually have a Velocity account as yet. Will that be sorted by Amex as part of my application process? Or will I need to do it myself?
Cheers in advance.
