not sure if this has been covered in this thread, I've just noticed that amex removed the option of the free flight from perth to Sydney return in Aug 2015. I received this card in July knowing that Sydney was a valid flight option, even called amex and confirmed.a
Can they do this ??? I signed up with the t&c's saying I could redeem my flight from perth to sydney

The T&Cs do also say they can change the options at any time - but I did manage to book my PER-SYD return last week for the end of October - just phoned up and asked for those flights, and nothing was said on their end about it being unavailable :)

ok thanks. I'd better get in and book the flight while I hopefully still can.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

So now the bonus points are taking up to 8 weeks to post?

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

I just had 3 x 20K show up in my points ready to sweep over to VA later. These came from a mate and relo, and maybe 1 from here. They seem to have taken about 3 weeks or so to show up.

So now the bonus points are taking up to 8 weeks to post?

Same points just came though overnight. From two referrals approve about two weeks ago. All others had come over within 24 hours,

I think most people's bonus referral points are being posted now. Lots of people in the other Amex velocity referral thread is saying their referral points have just been posted.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

I've had 2 x 20k post ... I know where one came from but not the other. A pleasant surprise :)

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

I just had 5 x 20,000 post! I was expecting two lots , from friends, so I guess the others came from here. Thank you :). Waited about 3 weeks give or take..

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

My brother wasn't interested in taking up the deal himself, but he was interested in the free flight and lounge passes if I paid the annual fee and he family transferred the points to me. His wife was even up for that as well, so I've got 220K coming my way, plus 40K for the 2 referrals = 260K all for the tidy sum of $700. The only shame is the folks are retired and I don't have more siblings !

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Unfortunately I applied earlier in the year with the 50k offer. I have other accounts with this issuer. Has anyone cancelled their velocity platinum and re-applied & got the points again? I'm thinking might cancel & wait a while before re-applying. Likely they might repeat this promo. Otherwise Mrs has just applied & I'll just piggy back on hers for a while.

I also meant to say above that although I thought this card would go in the draw to be cancelled once the free flight is used, I am actually finding it quite useful given the extended application of the definition of "restaurant" that pay 3 points per $. The coffee shop downstairs, various cafes and even Red Rooster have all paid at the higher rate.

It's not enough to justify paying another annual fee come next year, but it will be a good little earner for the next 10 or so months.

A quick question: Is it possible to play local champion on a direct sweep card like this? I can't find the option anywhere in the ios app.

I actually had some points taken back by Amex when they sent their terse letter (somehow its my fault they don't understand social media and haven't enforced their limits). So suggest anyone doing a last minute application NOT use my link.

When I tell the missus that she'll be pretty happy.

No not eligible for local champion unfortunately

Giving them away in packs of Corn Flakes now. My wife has been self-employed for about 5 years now, yet they approved her without seeing any financials at all.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Hi Burmans, What did they say in the letter? I referred heaps of people in the Facebook referral but haven't received any points at all yet, this was about 3-4 weeks ago...

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Being retired is not a barrier. If you mention this because they don't earn enough, AFAIK many people with a lower than official income have got it. Worth a try!

Nothing really, they essentially paraphrased this bit of the T&C's, in particular #3

American Express discourages spamming. You should only send referral messages to friends and family who genuinely want to receive them. By participating in ‘Refer a Friend’, you agree to these ‘Refer a Friend’ terms and conditions:
1. Only Friends & Family: You must only send referral messages to close friends and family.
2. Ask Their Permission First: You must ask the person for their permission to if you choose to send them an email about your Card product. Sending emails to people without consent is considered spam.
3. Cap Referrals: You may only send referral messages to a maximum of 20 friends and the amount of Velocity Points you may receive under the Refer a Friend program is capped at 200,000 Points.

The main issue I have with this whole thing is they clearly haven't kept the T&C's up to date with their actual promotions, i.e.

1. The only options Amex provide to publish are via Facebook and LinkedIn. I have about 700 LinkedIn connections and 100 Facebook friends. So they have essentially made it impossible to comply with 1, 2, and the first half of #3 above. This would be clear to anyone with a basic understanding of social media, and clearly their legal and marketing teams don't talk together!
2. Having posted to Facebook/LinkedIn (or in my case AFF), I have no control over who shares it or points other to my link, e.g. cove has pointed a number of people to my link, greatly appreciated but I had no control over it! Once again, no understanding of Social media!
3. And finally there is no way I can cap at 200K points, that's their job. Their failure to do so is their own problem, i.e. they are the one breaching the T&C's not me!

Do I care that much, well the T&C's also state the below.

Why should I comply?
If you fail to comply with these ‘Refer a Friend’ Terms & Conditions, your participation in the programme may be cancelled and you will no longer be eligible for any Velocity Points from the ‘Refer a Friend’ programme.

But they don't actually state any ability to reclaim, so you can claim they are in breach of the T&C's here too. Generally a slack performance by Amex but I'm not really that upset, they did let me keep the points that had already been sent through to Velocity.
