Thank you for your replies everyone.
I just called AMEX and they told me that my Velocity number was rejected, hence why the points were not transferred. I think it’s because when signing up for the e rewards surveys, i used a different address and name for the same Velocity no. Sigh…stupid me.

Can I ask about people's experiences when applying for this card?

I received no email acknowledging receipt of my application, giving reference number etc but the following day got a text telling me it was approved and to expect a card in 7 days but no email confirmation still.

Just seems odd!

especially when they have emailed me twice about an incomplete application (browser crashed and I had to restart the application)

I has similar issues with the 'incomplete application'. And, then I'm fairly sure I too just got the txt confirmation and a couple of days later. It sounds fine.

I did not even get a text message or email to say that my application has been approved. However, i did receive the card in the mail a week later.

Hi Milboo - same process for me (although I managed to get app done without browser crashing) no email but a text very shortly after applying.
Am expecting card next week.

I also meant to say above that although I thought this card would go in the draw to be cancelled once the free flight is used, I am actually finding it quite useful given the extended application of the definition of "restaurant" that pay 3 points per $. The coffee shop downstairs, various cafes and even Red Rooster have all paid at the higher rate.

Me too, Menulog is another that is another unexpected pay out at the higher rate, as are most of the (non-food) bars we've been to recently.

thanks for the tips, I was going to only keep the card in the draw till the free flight was used up, but I have since tested it at other food places and works nicely
even hungry jacks works, also got 3 ppd at Cowboys league club for membership fees (not even any food bought)

It's a great card! Subway, KFC, Maccs, anything and everything food related seems to pay 3 points. When you live in Canberra and travel mostly to Brisbane you easy SAVE money using the free flight vs paid. Brother in law got the card and transfered the points to me as my Birthday present, he is very ante Credit Cards and owns non but this one now. He's coming from Brisbane in a few weeks, check paid flights $429 used his free flight and saved $70 odd dollars and since he can set up a DDR with Amex for the full balance each month he will be keeping it now.

Giving them away in packs of Corn Flakes now. My wife has been self-employed for about 5 years now, yet they approved her without seeing any financials at all.

Applied for Plat Edge for one of my parents and they approved without asking. I'm tempted to do more now!

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Has anyone tried to use the Platinum Velocity Amex for centurion lounge access in the USA ?

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Has anyone used the card for domestic lounge access? I tried to present the card to the Virgin Lounge in Sydney Domestic Airport over the weekend, but they told me that they couldn't find any lounge passes on the card. The reception then proceeded to bring out a folder to show the credit cards that provided lounge access and the Velocity Platinum Amex wasn't one of the cards listed.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

I think the passes should be saved on your Virgin account. If you log into your Virgin velocity account, you should see 2 domestic lounges visits saved in your account.

The card issues 2 lounge passes to your Velocity Account. The agents would have needed to look up your account number and use one of the available passes.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

According to the Amex website you get two passes to Virgin domestic lounges and two to the Amex lounge in sydney

  • Enjoy two complimentary Single Entry passes to the Virgin Australia lounge[SUP]7[/SUP] each year at selected domestic airports
  • Enjoy complimentary access up to two entries per year to the American Express Lounge at Sydney International (Kingsford Smith) Airport T1[SUP]8[/SUP]
[SUP]
also my virgin lounge passes come up in my velocity account, my guess would be you'd have to show your velocity card not the credit card
[/SUP]

While I suspect you're correct, my Velocity number is also printed on my credit card, so worst case the agent should be able to punch that number in.

Hi Neon,

Tried in both Los Vegas and Dallas and was knocked back both times as it is not a AMEX issued platinum card.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Has anyone used the complimentary fare that is provided on the Amex Velocity Platinum - I am wondering:
i) is it only for the cardholder or can you give it to other family members?
ii) is it return or one way?
iii) what class is it and does it attract status credits?
iv) can it be upgraded?
v) How do you go about redemption?
vi) I know the tickets are only able to be used on selected routes is this linked in any way to the base of the eligible cardholder?

All answers gratefully recieved.
