And so the substitute Alaska trip begins

Last night at Bamboo.
Deep fried prawn shells. Mmmmm. It sure was crunchy. MrP had sake. I stuck with Corona.

Peking duck pancakes. Nice.

This was described as crispy orange glazed chicken. Clearly, it bore no resemblance to the menu. Remember KFC advertising pop chicken or similar? There was the occasional piece of pink grapefruit. Way too tart for the dish.

Rating? 4/10.

The resident swan knew I wanted to take his picture. This is what he thought of that.

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1464740219.657963.jpg

Then he assisted.

The pool area is deserted today. Weather not great - but occasional sun. We scored one of these.

The tides are such that the beach equipment (kayaks, canoes, windsurfers etc) were only out until 10am then no more today.

There really needs to be a tap that turns off the rain.
Last night was the seafood festival. Everyone seemed to either have dined early or having room service. Something about a Rugby match? League, so no interest here.

It was an additional $75pp on top of our package (cost of $125 pp without package). We could also have a $50 unlimited alcohol package, that was only for their selected wines and only lasted for 2 hours. We did not partake. Not sure why!

The buffet looked good for seafood lovers.

My main. Ribs were good.

MrP chose according to the theme. Apparently the bugs were excellent, the three times he replenished! He has been to the gym every day though and not eaten lunch. Just sayin.

Dessert bar.

The sweets were super sweet and rich. One bite of the salted caramel chocolate tart was enough for us. Creme brulee was excellent.

This morning we are on the 12 noon cat to Hamilton Island to stay at the Beach Lodge.

Looking forward to a good pub meal at the Yacht Club and fishing. Although apparently Saturday is going to be a shocker weather wise. MrP is happy - he will gym it and watch AFL. Me?

We also received in the package a $100 voucher for the spa. As my little finger does not need a manicure, we declined the offer.

Hope weather picks up - it looks like it's clearing on the BOM site.

The $100 spa credit did not go a long way then?

Just a trap to get you in and put it to another service. There was nothing less than $120. And certainly that wasn't a massage. Waxes - maybe.

I'm with Mr P.Go to the gym and you are allowed to eat anything you want for the rest of the day!;)

Ha ha. The day is only 24 hours long. I cant exercise that much.

Now on Hamilton Island. Gorgeous resort on the Catseye Beach. Over 18's only.

I rather like the welcome bottle. Hope it tastes better than Pol Acker

But Pol Acker is more than the drink. It's the occasion.

Raining now! Least we have a covered verandah. The Yacht Club looks stunning. If the weather holds, a perfect place for a dinner.

Tomorrow is really weather dependent. If ok then will just walk around the Island - lots to see and plenty of places to chill. Snorkel and maybe fish?

All the reef stuff will need to wait until Monday when weather clears. Too $$$ to do it in this weather. ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1464847149.891428.jpg

Love the bath.

Grrr. No bar soap. On the list for shopping.

Nice jewellery thankyou MrP.

And so far, nice weather. Thunderstorms at lunchtime. Need to stock up.

Yummy breakfast. And a table with the view.
ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1464922103.677500.jpg

Special for me. Smashed (not mashed apparently) avocado with roasted chorizo and poached egg.

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1464922187.358545.jpg

And the bestest looking bacon and eggs for MrP.

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1464922251.947003.jpg

Weather was a bit grim for a while

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1464922300.990201.jpg

But eventually it cleared and we set off up the beach for a swim.

Tide was going out and we spent a pleasurable time watching the tourists try to launch a canoe as they each let the canoe go as the waves came in. Score? One tourist drenched when the canoe bucked into their shins and felled them.

While fishing a guy with a tractor stopped by me. Thought I was about to be reprimanded but instead he told me of a great place to fish at high tide. Sweet. He said the weather was going to be carp tomorrow so he suggested a ferry to Airlie Beach and check out the Saturday markets. Might just do that.

You're right about MrP's eggs and bacon. That looks like yummy crunchy bacon! None of the greasy semi cooked stuff often found in hotel breakfast buffets! The advantage of course of staying where there is a proper breakfast menu.

The clouds were certainly black looking. Lucky they cleared.
