Hi anyone had any luck getting full refund of the annual fee when threatening to cancel the card.

I've had the opposite problem with mine, I genuinely don't use this card but have found it almost impossible to cancel, every year they ask why I want to cancel and waive the fee. Same as SC9, not worth arguing over if they want to give it to me fee free.

Just got my annual fee waived after holding it for almost a year. I called up and said that because I am refinancing my loans, I am consolidating my credit card and the one that doesn't have annual fee I will keep, otherwise I will cancel. They just said no problems and got my annual fee waived due to my excellent repayment record .....

Same here. The fee was waived last year, so I kept the card, but didn't use it at all. I phoned them today to cancel, and they offered to waive the fee again. This time, I actually did cancel the card as I am wary of having too much credit that may restrict my options if a better card comes along with good sign on bonuses.

Yes, when Comprehensive Credit Reporting actually starts (maybe end this year) you wont want to have to much existing credit so will be closing mine as well.

Good history and having nothing on the card at renewal probably helped us. Phoned to raise issue with the renewal fee and promptly waived though only for 12 months.

Also waived for me for another year.

I am still on the fence about actually keeping the card, but it is a good little earner on VI / MC only transactions.

A good point. I'm thinking of doing the same thing with one of my old cards. Does anyone know how long after cancelling a card it would show up on your credit report and not impact on a new card application. I'm thinking if it was cancelling this week and I apply for a new card next week, the new card company may not realise the old card has been cancelled and it would restrict the credit limit on the new card.

Just called up and said I want to cancel the card unless you guys waive the annual fee.
The lady on the phone said sure no problem, I will waive it for you.

That was easy!

God, they have change their tune in the last couple of years then. I had this card 2 years ago and rang trying to get a fee waiver for the second year, advising I was going to cancel as I found a new card without an annual fee and they let me cancel...the best they would offer me was 1,000 points

My experience has been that it has been almost impossible to cancel and I genuinely hardly ever use the card, every time I ring to cancel they give me fee free for a year and given they occasionally have spend promos I fold.

I called to cancel today, and was offered a full waiver as soon as I was connected to cancellations. If only it was that easy for cards I wanted to keep.

Lets just say a pre call due to an overseas trip has been made.
1. Do not charge annual fee due in November on October statement.
2. Will have conversation about keeping card when they return in late October.

Let you know the outcome.....very upset customer about the STUPID current online website layout.....so I'm told?

10 minutes on the phone and $89 saved. I was first offered 2000 points to keep the card to which I said no and was then put through to cancellations who immediately waived the fee for a year.

Annual spend for fee waiver in the proximity of?

They recently waived mine, and I barely use it. They even suggested with the annual fee waived, it would make a great "back up" card. So I don't know that they factor annual spend into it too much.

I said I wasn't prepared to pay the increased fee now that Macquarie is taking over. No hesitation in waiving the fee "for the first year". I was assured that this waiver would carry through even after the changeover. I got a reference number for the call just to be safe.

Family member rang today and informed by Senior customer support(so I am told) that can offer 1/2 price annual fee..$70.
Did not take offer.

So do I then ask to speak to cancellation department in an attempt to total waiver......do they have one like HSBC?

They have $3k credit on card....only way is to use it before cancelling card?
Will they return it to a nominated bank account????
Think WOW 5% off cards
