Right - I have had enough! Something has to be done about the overt anti-suitism that seems to pervade the forums? What have we done to deserve this treatment? I wear a suit for work - it isn't my choice (though I do prefer to wear a tie if I am in a formal shirt) but it is what I wear and not who I am!

Time and again I see threads with phrases "I would rather have as serial killer in the lounge rather than some of the suits I have seen" (slight embellishment for added effect). I am just not sure what we seem to have done.

Generally in the lounge I am there at suit o'clock and the worst I experience seems to be the occasional guffawing/loud conversation and that comes from suits and slackers alike. Most of the time at suit o'clock there is just the occasional chinking of cutlery on plates. I don't get pushed, harassed or harangued by anyone else in a suit.

After departing the lounge to the lack of priority boarding all I experience then is the long line of suited drones entering the aircraft again in silence.

So I say again - stop the anti-suitism!!

Nice one, but I gave up suits many years ago and only wear them to weddings, funerals and job interviews. (oh, and the races)

I wear a tie to work; but suit up rarely.

As for discrimination; nah ... nothing wrong with wearing a suit.

After wearing jeans to work for over 15 years I am voluntarily bucking the trend and have started wearing a suit.

I'm supposed to suit up for work, but I rarely translate that into a suit at the airport. When I'm wearing my t-shirt and long pants in the J lounge I often experience "pushy" suits. For example 2 people at the bar, I stand back a step to allow a clear thoroughfare suit walks up and stands in front of me. That's not a one off either.

Nothing against individual suits but there are some shockers out there and I would guess they don't bother you if you're also in uniform.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Wear whatever you like that maintains modesty and doesnt inflict visual, auditory or olfactory offence. I fail to see how a suit can cause any of those unless it is
- of supreme cheapness (iin which case, you probably wouldnt be wearing a suit
- hasnt been cleaned in years or your personal hygeine is terrible (in which case, it's not the suit that's the issue - the rest of your clothes probably smell too).
- is made of some weird material (think the Seinfeld episode where George gets the swooshy suit).

The issue usually isnt the suit but the protoplasm wearing the suit.:!:

I dont know doc.Today I went into a store called Players in the Boulevarde mall,Las vegas. You could get pink,2 shades of purple, yellow, green, red suits plus some of mixed colour. Most would have caused a bit of a stir in a J lounge.

My suit is a 2 piece charcoal or black - I have options ( ;) ) or a 2 piece; denim pants and Hi Viz reflector shirt, or a 3 piece (most common ATM); dark blue jeans, a business shirt and a blue blazer.

The rudest people in the JQP are by far the suits in my experience - regardless of the time or location. I have commented about this before that they seem to think they are special enough to push in front while waiting at the bar, toaster, pancake machine in fact anywhere. And I have never heard an "excuse me" from one of them. I have frequently used my upmost skill to block these people from pushing in... I hope Mr Gr_ _ _ _ _ _ _ wasn't one of them ;)

I haven't warn a suit to work for many a year, just business attire, pants and business shirt, although i have ditched the ties these days...

And stuff travelling in a suit, thankfully i can always arrive the day before conferences and meetings and leave the day after so don something more comfortable..

You could always try a comfy track-suit, i imagine those crushed velvet lounging type ones are very comfortable and convey a sort of superior air to the more common baggy bottomed, saggy numbers often worn in lower socio economic areas with varying types of ugg boots... Not that the lounges should get overly superior about these types entering either... Its all about live and let live after all...

Of course if someone does push in front of me at the salad bar etc thinking they are some sort of higher life form because of their dress they are risking an accidental elbow to the back of the head...

And yes there are some real average to shocking coughpy/ugly suits out there whose owners shouldn't take on any airs and graces!!!

I think the problem needs to be approached from a different angle. How can the wearers of suits change the perception they create? It is a case of persuading the non suit wearer that they are all cuddly and lovely and break down those barriers. :p

In QLD, it's not practical at all to wear suits. I'm happy as long as people look generally presentable, and with no underarm hair poking out (male or female)! Urrgh!

Certainly in FNQ, the polyester safari suit is still popular.

And from your reputation on the forum for "colourful" golf attire, I assume you bought them all? :p

I'm often in many a J lounge wearing jeans & hi vis shirt. I've found the suits are overwhelming polite & nice when I'm in a queue at the bar or food bench..........most times they move and let me through with a go on mate.

I think, they think, I'm there to fix something:lol:

Just for the record for int'l trips I travel in cargos and a PRL Polo shirt - I only wear a suit when travelling DOM.

I think not - I am remarkably polite in the QP/J Lounge - in the F lounge politeness isn't necessary as I have no interaction with other PAX at all (I am of course polite and almost friendly towards the people working there - as long as they get me my preferred table).

Maybe we should look within?

Sometimes when l read 'The Australian Way' magazine, l feel that if l don't drive an Audi or wear a suit, l don't tick the boxes for QF. Hmm, maybe it's just me...

I think that is a BMW.
