Card Offers ANZ Frequent Flyer Black: 130,000 Qantas Points + $200 back

Agree that providing bank statements could cause issues. I have always been able to avoid providing these as I’m able to provide payslips
I actually had the opposite with another credit card app. I provided all the mandatory requirements in branch which included 2 payslips. Declined because I didn't provide 6 months bank statements but it wasn't requested in the application form. Tried to submit it and they said it's too late. ANZ was my first application after that so I thought I should provide as much as possible but maybe YMMV.

Oh, I once did supply payslips to ANZ for a different card application. They managed to make that painful as well! I had recently had a child and work provides 18 weeks paid paternity leave. So I took it flexibly with all of January off and the rest by working 4-day weeks. Loved it, almost worth having another kid for it.
I digress. ANZ assessor saw on my payslip that I was taking parental leave. They requested a letter from my employer's HR/payroll department confirming that I would "return to full time work after parental leave." It made no sense to me. Even if I were to stay 4 days and take a 20% pay cut, I would still be over twice the minimum income requirement. And what's to stop me from leaving the job anyway?

I just don't understand these people.

When I applied I submitted bank statements instead of pay slips, can't remember why, but I will never do it again. They rang me to interrogate me over every little thing they could find. Like I had some payments to Norway, helping my sister pay down a loan, and the decription said "loan" so they assumed I had undisclosed foreign debt. They asked me why I had paid such a high credit card bill the previous month, and I have to explain that I had just gotten back from 2 months travelling overseas. There were more as well. So painful, I won't do that again
Agree about providing bank statements with an application. If that is a stated requirement i move to the next card. Applied for a BOQ specialist card earlier this year, went through the whole application and at the last point they said load your bank statements. I knew i was doomed, sure enough declined.

Had so many admin issues applying for this card.

First they were going to contact me the day that Optus failed, so obviously didn’t.

Then they rang to say they needed an extra payslip (despite providing 7!), because there was a two week gap (though they could have inferred income from the YTD figures)

Then they didn’t acknowledge the extra documents I sent until I followed up.

And now finally, for some reason when they’ve sent my details to the ID checking system they’ve decided to only use half of my double barreled surname (despite assuring me by phone they had my correct name), so of course my ID won’t verify so I have to go in store tomorrow where I am anticipating further dramas.

I *was* considering moving all of my banking to ANZ but forget about it now.

The offshoring of ANZ's credit processing has been an unmitigated disaster for customers. But management doesn't care. Costs have been cut and therefore it looks like a win. Bonuses secured.

Yes. Good for the shareholders 🤔

ANZ make you jump many hoops for this card. They have a great bonus points deal but the worse service and app.

NAB was so much better at communicating and getting things started. ANZ is stuck in the dark ages. I would not do any other banking with them besides a credit card churn.

My QFF membership year expires 29/02/24 and I am wanting to go for PCP for next year so trying to time some cards up where I can start earning the minimum spend but then get the points posted to QFF after 29/02/24.

Lets say I took this card out and the first statement period is 07/01/24 to 06/02/24. If I hit the minimum spend in mid February then will the points likely post to QFF after statement for period ending 06/03/24 or 06/04/24? And do the points only go to QFF as per the statement issued date, or potentially a touch earlier?

Need the points as close to the start of the membership year if possible, but don't want them to land too early and count in this membership year!

Thanks

This will be hard to time with ANZ. I hit my spend the within days of getting the card, in this month I also got a statement. I only got my spend points. The bonus is stated can take upto 3 months.

NAB is allot faster at giving the bonus points I got it in my first bank statement. They are also allot faster at approving the card. Just a better bank in general.

ANZ is a slow in every way so factor that in.

When I get the points I confirm it as a data point.

Yeah the offshore team who do income checks are morons. The three months worth of payslips I provided covered the June July period. The bloke was questioning why my salary dropped in July. I told him the super rate increased. Idiots.

I feel ANZ credit card department is ran like a not for profit business. They seem the least interested in the customer spending money.

You can log onto the ANZ website to check if you will be awarded the bonus points before your statement is issued. Once you are logged on, click the credit card account, on the menu on the left click 'reward points'. This will display a summary of the points earned since the last statement date. One of the lines is for bonus points. Mine says 110,000 and my statement should be issued early next week. I expect these points will post to my QFF account as soon as the statement is issued.

This is will be my third statement. The first one was only about 6 days for whatever reason. I hit the spend criteria for the bonus points during the second statement period.

The ANZ Qantas Platinum card will be the next one I churn to after cancelling my NAB one.

I'm not considering the Black card as I don't have $5k to spend within 3 months unless I buy unnecessary stuff (this is usually a trap for most people in that they go out of their way to meet the minimum spend - I'm not one of those people and rather calculate what I need to pay for coming up), and also the high $15k minimum credit limit.

75k QFF points after $295 (minus $100) and $2.5k will do me just fine.

I've already got 2 other cards on top of the NAB card, for a combined limit of $14k.

Reading some comments above, seems that ANZ are stamping down and rejecting applications that normally would have gone through?

I thought it was just the standard 3 months payslips required, plus a breakdown of what you have / what your expenses are and that's pretty much it? I know with NAB the application was fairly easy.

It depends if you do contract based work or have an ABN it will make their brains explode. They will then want a DNA sample along with a PCR covid test. Even if you earn way above the income requirements and can prove it they will make you jump hoops.

If you have a stable salary (only modest increases) been in the same company for 3 years plus then you should not have any issues.

I've been with my company for >3 years so I gather it won't be an issue (ie. stable).

I'm only just considering the ANZ Platinum card as it's the best deal as possible with the lowest spend requirement to obtain the bonus points (ie. In contrast, Westpac's offer is 70k bonus points after $4k within 90 days - ie. less points, more spend).

I know I can spend $2.5k within 3 months easily as that's pretty much my normal Credit Card spend anyway ($850ish/month).

$5k on the other hand is a bit steep and I'd have to resort to buying either unnecessary stuff, or do what I did last time and pay for health insurance a year in advance (normally a monthly debit), or something similar.

I'll just wait for my last pending points to land (should be within 1-2 weeks), then cancel and apply for an ANZ one.

My last ANZ Qantas card which I got bonus points on was cancelled in 2018, so well over the blackout period (I've had 2 x Qantas Premier, 1 x Bank of Melbourne, 2 x Westpac in between).

That is a wise move, to churn within what you know what you will spend. I do something similar.

I hope your ANZ credit check goes smooth. :)

Thankyou :)

I don't want to have to spend thousands more than I need to, just for the purposes of an additional 30-50k of points.

If I did that, I may as well have just purchased top-up points if I wanted to do that :)

Looking at the top-up points page, for $2k you'd get 75k points (even more points / less cash spend when Qantas run their points promo).

ANZ Platinum - 75k points after $2.5k + $195 annual fee (after $100 cashback)
or
ANZ Black - 100k points after $5k + $175 annual fee (after $250 cashback)

vs

ANZ Platinum + spending $2.5k to top-up points = 75k + 90k = 165k points
or
ANZ Black - 100k points after $5k + $175 annual fee (after $250 cashback) + another 30k points after a 2nd annual fee which is charged = 130k points

In my situation, I think I know which is the better option if I just wanted QFF points - ANZ Platinum.

Spend $5k, get 75k (from the card bonus) + 70k from topping up.

Does anyone know if points earned on this card can be sent to a Qantas Frequent Flyer account under a different name?
