ANZ Platinum, 50k bonus QFF points after $1500 spend, no annual fee first year

Another data point:

Applied (successfully) for two other credit cards this year, and applied for Black card on Saturday. Was referred. Rang up today and was told that it has been approved and to expect it in 3-5 business days (no email notice as promised). No need to verify income or anything (but I am an ANZ customer so they can see income into my account anyway).

Update first statement received spent $2.5K the 50,000 bonus points has also been allocated :D Sweet deal now to cancel the card

Both of us approved a week ago waiting for cards then hopefully 100K points between us, feel another holiday coming on :)

Not sure if anyone has posted it yet but she also mentioned that the promotion is now until October.

ANZ website and Qantas Website still suggest 26 Aug - though october is listed for the Rewards (not QFF) card - was the mention only verbal?

My particular reasoning for this is I only very recently applied for Amex Qantas Ultimate for a $250 Qantas return flight +50k promotion (which is decent ex Perth) and don't want to damage the rating too much :)

I applied for this card and 2 NAB ones in the last month. All approved but my Veda score dropped by 68 points. The month before, it increased by about 30 points, so in 3 months from now I should be square but with plenty of bonus points.

Out of interest, what level cards did you apply for at ANZ and NAB (entry/plat/black)?

I may apply for the Black as the 50000 sign on bonus, the 1.5 FFP/$ on the AMEX, no first year annual fee, bonus points on QF purchases and the Asia lounge access is better than my Bankwest QF Platinum (the Visa earn rate and FX charges are not however).

Why are people closing their account as soon as they get the bonus points? Your credit file has already taken the hit of the card application/acceptance so you might as well keep it for the year and then close it.

Basic cards for NAB and Platinum for ANZ. The logic being for NAB, both cards had $65 fee and 20,000 points, but the platinum ones had 40,000 points with more than double annual fee. That way I could also have minimal credit limits so my ANZ application want affected too much. Got the ANZ platinum as I don't have the income for Black, and the platinum had a higher earn rate than the basic card.

Can't knock back the same earn rate on Amex as my Earth Black, but with a 55 day interest free period rather than 45 (will cancel the NAB and ANZ cards before the annual fee renewal.

Am I reading the T&C correctly for the ANZ FF Black Amex (points crediting to QF) that for each $1 spend, you receive 1.5 QFF points PLUS an additional 1.0 QFF point for eligible spend on QF products. So that is a total of 2.5 QFF points for $1 spend on QF flights, etc.

2.5 QFF ppd is pretty good return, I can switch my QF spend from the QF Discovery Amex to the ANZ Black, esp. since the ANZ Black has all of the insurances added, whereas the QF Discovery Amex doesn't (far as I know).

The footnote says that spend includes QF flights and QP membership and fees but NOT JQ flights, not Q Holidays, Hotels, etc.

I booked a QF Award flight on QR Metal and gained 1 QFF point bonus per $ spent (ie taxes and charges for 2). $793.50

Well I am in the camp of keep it for a while.

I have just booked an Award Flight and used it for the bonus QFF point on the taxes, PLUS it will be my initial travel insurance that will cover all my initial expenses for Cancellation Insurance.

Many people only take out/activate Travel Insurance just before they go and so forgo the benefit. I have had to cancel a trip once due to my wife having a serious accident, and so I know the value of being covered for cancellation.

I may later swap to using my Westpac Black CC TI, or depending what exactly I end up doing on my trip paid TI. But the ANZ one will do for now for the purpose of covering me for cancellation.

Hi LTO,

Does the 2605.40 'standard' points already include the 1189 (793 x 1.5) base points for your Qantas flight booking ? If it does, then the 793 bonus points, shown separately in your table, are IN ADDITION to the base earn.

This is what I am trying to figure out.

Yes it is an additional 1 point per $.

So it was 2.5 points per $ earnt on the flight booking. Which as I sated was purely taxes and charges on an award booking.

The 2605 points was earnt at a rate of 1.5 inclusive of the $793 spend.

Has anyone who has opened two accounts actually seen two lots of the 50,000 points credit either to their QFF accounts, or at least shown in the Rewards section of the ANZ internet banking?

Thanks !

With my QF spend that makes getting the card (ex fee) worthwhile all by itself. The 50k, passes, insurance and Veloce are a bonus!

Uncapped ATO earn is the reason I'll be retaining the card.
