ANZ Platinum, 50k bonus QFF points after $1500 spend, no annual fee first year

So, to wrap up this debacle...

I received another "SecureMail" from them today (after sending one more, specifying the exact dates the promotion ran, and that the next step would be the FOS):

"We have on your behalf contacted relevant department and have been advised that your ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card was opened via IPT; hence Annual Fee and Rewards Program fee was applied.

As a goodwill gesture, Annual Fee of $370.00, Rewards Fee of $110.00 and Additional Card Holder fee have been reversed."

I'm glad I finally have a resolution, however I don't get why it took this long to see it was opened via IPT (whatever that is - I'm assuming it means online?).

What annoys me the most, however, is the term "goodwill gesture". It's called "providing me with the advertised product", not any goodwill on their part.

I'm going to send them a formal complaint (by snail mail!) regarding the whole process, because it has been ridiculous.

Anyway, thanks to those who helped with the info on the original offer, and here's hoping the bonus points actually post.

Lesson learned: never, ever will I open another account with ANZ.

I completely agree. It's plain wrong.

I recently had a routine transaction dispute that was rectified within their time period (which, incidentally, kept changing). When I escalated it I was given a "goodwill credit" for the amount of the fraudulent transaction. It's like they're doing me a favour when really they haven't done their job.

I've escalated to the FOS based on exactly the same thing. The use of "good will" for fixing their mistake. I elevated to their internal "customer advocate" who refused to apologize and acknowledge that there was no "good will gesture" rather simply the correction of their mistake.

I've never banked with ANZ before and certainly won't after this debacle! Every person I know who has applied for these cards has had an error made by anz.

I guess it is somewhat reassuring to know they have messed up other peoples cards too. A few family members are still sorting theirs out :-|.

Everyone makes mistakes, I get that. But once it's brought to your attention, don't be rude and condescending about it.

I've dealt with a total of about 8 people, both on the phone and online, and (apparently) in a number of departments, and they've all had the exact same attitude.

I would have thought that a big part of offering these sorts of introductory offers would be to get customers in, maybe show them that your service and products are better than their current provider, and hope a few people might decide to jump ship with other accounts.

Yeah that's the frustrating part. They just stuffed up things over and over again including issuing the wrong cards and charging the annual fee. The "customer advocate" sent a rude, condescending letter and somehow tried to justify that it was my fault they charged the annual fee and they had no grounds to apologize... I thought Citi were bad!

Am I really stupid or is there no way of seeing a statement on the ANZ internet banking app?
I've had this card since end of July, spent the $1500 and never received a statement from them?
I can see what I owe online but can't seem to get a statement. Phoned up twice and each time have given up after 20 mins on hold

Tried to use my black amex for petrol but was declined rang ANZ and was told I had not made a payment
I told them that I have not received a statement and to email straight away I also told them that I would like all charges reversed
AT this stage have not used cards again and will dump once points are added

We've got three cards (black x2 & plat) between us - Just received our second round of statements via snail mail and can view online.

OT I'm liking the very quick transaction time for payments between our bank and ANZ - have some large ATO bills to pay and need to recycle payments a few times to cover. Transferred payments to all three cards yesterday afternoon and they were credited to the accounts by 10pm last night. Makes for easy cycling for large payments.

Does anyone happen to have a saved screen shot of the offer when the annual was waived? After 9 days, I have now been told both online and over the phone by 3 people that this was never an offer!

I printed out the screens for first page and conditions.
Let me know if you want it .

Hey, just wondering how long after $1500 spend it took for bonus points to show under the rewards points section in ANZ online accounts for everyone? Or did they just transfer to QFF without showing there first. Thanks

As per the previous posts...

Some have got it (mainly on the basic card), but many are still waiting.

T&C stated quite clearly could take 4 months. So no-one is actually over-due in waiting. Those that have gained the 50K have been awarded them early.

Just wondering if those that never open anz account again.... If 100k or 200k points offer would suddenly reverse your decision?

Never lose sight of the fact that FF pts cultivation and harvesting is nothing short of a game.

YES there can be inconvenience, confusion and wasted time in sorting problems - but somehow those problems seem to disappear into t.hin air when you are sitting in an F or J seat courtesy of the Cc FF pts promos.

EXPECT minor inconveniences - EXPECT confusion and minor disillusionment - ENJOY the the champers in the pointy end - PRAY for another CC FF promo just around the corner!

I'd probably have to renege on my statement for an offer like that...

Like Cruiser said below, it's all a game after all.

I came across this offer a bit late and am glad it was extended. I applied for the basic card today and got accepted so 50,000 points (after I spend $1,500) will be coming my way.

Thanks for all the great information.

cheers Peter

Extended, but the yearly fee is no longer waived.

I am the odd one out in this thread...as I actually like Credit Card companies that are not 100% switched on....as it creates opportunities to take advantage of ;)

I would not be flying at the pointy end without them!

So I am not at all disgruntled by it. Inded, for me it is a good thing and I welcome it. May it long continue :D

I would be mortified if I ever had to go back to actually buying a long-haul international flight.

Sounds like you have extracted a few points/miles from them over time. I always thought there were dangers in applying for too many credit cards ie it could hurt your credit record. Just out of curiousity how many miles & ooints have you been bale to pick up from credit cards in total? Have there been enough offers to get a free long haul flight, say every 2 years?

A bit more than that (and I do not run a business to churn revenue or bills through- as small business operators can generate millions per year depending on their cashflow, but sometimes at a surcharge cost and so it is points cheaply rather than points for free) if you mean both joining offers and promos.

I have been redeeming 1 or two trips per year in mainly J and sometimes First for a family of 5 to Asia/Europe for many years now. Prior to that as I was not as adept as acquiring points it was mainly in Y (mind you fuel fines did not exist then either!!! and so Y redemptions were ok value). Ironically I earn a lot more points now than back when a decade ago I was flying a lot for work with a yearly $100K travel budget. Knowledge is king.

This year looks to be a bit lean. This promo will gain 100-250K for my wife and I. So this year will be only 500-700K. The last several years I have been doing a million or so.

One promo gained me enough points for 20 Business Class returns to Europe. Another 2 J returns. Quite a few 1 J or so. But it is mainly earning a few points ere, and few there is various promos that all add up.

This promo is unfortunately only good for awarding to QFF my non-preferred program. But will hopefully earn I enough points for the equivalent of one of J return tickets to Africa next year.

On joining bonuses, they come and go. They used to be really good, but in recent years have often had a hefty yearly free. There have been some with reduced fees though. This was great as it was fee free. I only go for the ones that are either free, or have a very high points to $fee ratio, or perhaps have other worthwhile benefits like free flights to sweeten the deal.

So your credit rating hasn't been adversely affected by applying for so many cc deals, or alternatively the banks haven;t twigged on that you are chasing the points and refused your applications?
