Good point
I have emailed my broker now and will see what they come back with.

Although i dont know if i can play the "Im going to move if i dont get it" card as some of the loans are joint with family who might not be so happy to move.
We have a good portfolio as well so maybe just the enquiry might be enough to get it going.

Did not go well. :(
Said they checked with Credit Cards and Breakfree. Still said not available yet.
They said they if i have my friends details they can look at the circumstances they got given one and see if they can do the same,
So unless preparefortakeoff wants to PM me his name so i can provide them the exmaple i dont know i can do much for now.

I rang to cancel today. I've just refinanced all our loans with CBA so was going to cancel regardless of the change to points earn but gave that as the reason for leaving. But I was told that I am fee free of my platinum card, except for Qantas charge, (I never knew I was fee free (thought it was because of BreakFree package) and because of my 14 years of loyalty, they will offer me 5,000 points if I stay with ANZ. I said no to 5,000 points, asked for 50,000 which is the current join promotion, and was told no to that but was offered 10,000 points if I stay for at least the next 3 months. He said its worth between $300-$400 in points for ANZ. So I accepted and will probably cancel in 3 months.

He stressed this was a "loyalty reward" for me, not a bribe to keep me!! What ever he thinks - thanks for 10,000 free points!!

Rang to cancel today and they offered to credit my account with the annual fee (which I'd just paid in August) if I keep the card open for another 3 months! So I'll happily collect the credit then cancel in the three months!

I don't think they will credit the entire fee, maybe only $240 annual fee and you still need to pay $55 rewards fee.

I still have no idea why ANZ charges their annual fee like that, none of the other majors do, maybe ANZ rewards program is running by another party.

Amex do it as well on corporate cards.
$55 if we wanted to add the rewards program to our corporate Amex.

It is a hangover from when GST was introduced. Basically, by splitting it like that they can charge GST on the Rewards Program. Otherwise bank charges are GST free. The other banks didn;t choose to go down that path.

Good to hear that previously loyal customers are looking elsewhere. This is a similar marketing exercise to Qantas reducing rewards on its OneWorld partners. It is pointless having a credit limit over $6000 if there is no reward on these transactions. This amount is only 1/2 of my average monthly spend.

ANZ is capping its New Zealand Qantas credit cards as well. Unfortunately we don't have many other options to earn QFF points.

Sorry sdtravel for the delayed response!

As an update our broker let us know that the Black FF card is now available under the Breakfree package and this is what we were sent as a copy of an internal memo. Hopefully this will help you too!

ANZ Black Credit Cards in the Breakfree package

We are excited to advise you of two changes to our ANZ Black card in relation to the Breakfree package;

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black now available to be linked via Breakfree
ANZ Rewards Black can be ordered during the Breakfree Application process

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black now available via Breakfree

We are pleased to announce that we are trialling the inclusion of ANZ Frequent Flyer Black as part of the ANZ Breakfree Package.

This is a great addition for your customers; allowing them to have an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card, while receiving all the existing benefits of being part of ANZ Breakfree.

How can my customers take up this offer?
On the Breakfree Application Form (attached) under 1C, please select Option 2.

If your customer does not yet have the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card, leave the ‘Card Number’ field blank.
If your customer has the card, include the card number in the ‘Card Number’ field.

Your customer will need to apply for the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black separately. They can do this by;
visiting their closest ANZ Branch
applying online at anz.com, or
calling ANZ on 13 13 14, option 3, 4, 1, 1.

Please note: Customers are not eligible for the bonus Qantas Points offer when they apply for the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card with the Breakfree package. The bonus Qantas Points offer is not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions (which includes the Breakfree package).

For a full list of the benefits of the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card, please refer to the product page on ANZ.com.

I will be ditching my cards next week. I'm a bit over ANZ anyway to be honest, and the $6000 cap on a $300 card is frankly insulting. Going to close my business account too, just for fun.

Does anyone have any recent successful experience of obtaining the FF Black under the Breakfree package? I am in the process of renewing my Breakfree package, and both my broker and direct ANZ contacts are stating that the FF Black is not available as the fee free card under Breakfree. The ANZ website still shows a platinum card as the example saving under Breakfree, though I note the T&C's of an eligible credit card include one which "ANZ accepts at its discretion".

My broker allowed me to switch just a few weeks ago.
Originally when I first posted on this thread they said no it wasn't possible.
But a few weeks back they said I could now get it under the package.
Last week the card arrived.
I think it's at their discretion still to customers who ask or deemed big enough

As a transfer I can't get the bonus points offer.
It's for new customers only.
I still have to pay the $55 program rewards fee but I did that with my platinum anyway

Certainly contact via the broker and a direct contact didn't identify a 'non discretionary' option to provide the FF Black under Breakfree - or for that matter a discretionary option. However I maintain the loan close to fully offset, so it could well be I'm not particularly valuable to them. Direct contact indicated things may change next year ... but I'm not holding my breath.
