Apple Airtags

Well this was a bust. I used points on the Qantas store on 28 April. Supposed to arrive by May 12. Still processing on that date. I emailed them. They phoned me and said they’d get info from the supplier. Today I logged in and the points have been refunded. On the other hand the eBay tags I ordered for them have arrived. Sigh.
They can be in short supply from some sources it seems. I bought mine direct from Apple and they arrived in 3 days.

You want some key rings for them. Going cheap. Asking for a friend 😂. Not sure I’ll get to the one Apple store in time now.

Ahah:) Thanks. I have four already! Not sure what to do with 4 AirTags atm, just bought them for amusement and possible future OS travel. Put one on MrsTMA's hand bag when she went to opthomologist the other day. (Actually her phone (FindMyPhone) showed the better geographic location.)

Apple used to have a priotrity (same-day courier?) shipping?

I’ve ordered some now and will collect tomorrow. Trip to the city needed.

Ordered a pack of Airtags from Apple 10 days ago and original ETA was 16th June. They were delivered this morning.

I've had Airtags going for about a week, and Chipolo card in my wallet from yesterday.

For each, I occasionally get a "left behind" alert hours after the event (eg leaving my laptop in the car while I'm shopping) and often there are several alerts that come together for different 'left behind' devices. I just got 2 alerts from this afternoon, a couple of hours after I got home, and moving in close proximity to them all. Some late alerts occurred at home, via my NBN-powered wi-fi, some used 5G to alert me (late) the city )

These alerts come on my Apple Watch 6.

Anyone else experienced this - suggestions what's happening and how I might fix it? Pls keep technical descriptions at the 'cretin' level!

That’s the way it is I believe. It will depend on what other devices the ATs can connect to. I don’t think there’s much/anything you can do to make responses faster.

The fix? Disconnect the battery.:) :)

It will depend on what other devices the ATs can connect to.

I think it only uses other (non owner) devices in 'lost' mode. If its a straight 'leave behind', I think its the direct communication between the 2 devices that is is lost and then the alert should happen - say, 50m away? Its done this a couple of times, but more so with a very late alert.

Additional info: I have enabled ":time sensitive notifications - always deliver immediately"- and that's the alert that comes up "Time sensitive: Surface Pro left behind".

I wonder if having the alert come through my watch rather than my phone might be causing a delay issue? I have it that way because my watch will always be attached to me, and then I can see when I've left my phone behind.

@jb747 - you might have been using them the longest - ever had this issue?

I'll monitor it over the next few days, and then of course there is Google :)

How is your experience with the chipolo card? I’m specifically curious about the thickness of the card compared to say a credit card.

Its a bit thicker than a cc but slides easily into a wallet's cc 'slot'. Might see if I can take a comparative pic later.

Bug*er.

Just re my post above about delayed notifications. Over the past week, when I've driven or walked away from stuff with a tag, I got an alert usually within 5 minutes - so much further away when driving than walking (including Chipolo wallet thing). No more several hours later.

There is some strange relationship between iPhone and Apple Watch for notifications, which I haven't worked out yet. In theory, you should get an alert on both (if you have both on you), but it seems to be one or the other.

What’s the advantage of chipolo vs AirTags?

My left behind alerts using Air Tags have been very quick. Normally within a 100 metres or so.

Which is what I was expecting. I'm a bit disappointed but better than nothing. I had similar 'latency' issues with a Ring doorbell, which gives alerts on people's approach. Had to get signal to and from USA server, and the 20-40 sec delay in getting the alert made it virtually useless (except as a video record).

Its thin and fits into your wallet. See thickness pic above.

For the Chipolo One Spot, if you buy the 4 pack, currently $25 AUD each and no need to buy a case to fit a keyring. Same functionality except the UWB direction finding in the last metre or so. Beeping is louder though.

@Pushka are you using the air tags on your current trip and if so how do you find them/ are they useful. I am considering buying some for Mrs&MissM, everyone in our household has apple everything.
