Apple Airtags

@Pushka are you using the air tags on your current trip and if so how do you find them/ are they useful. I am considering buying some for Mrs&MissM, everyone in our household has apple everything.
Yes we are. And have checked a couple of times. Just checked it again and the three are registering correctly even on a dodgy wifi here. I guess until case goes missing it’s value isn’t determined as that’s the test.

It’s fun to keep checking on them. Also can share location with friends. We are currently on A1 heading north.

My wife lost one tag that she had loose in her purse. Initially it was in Albury, then it moved to Corowa. It was apparently on a nature strip for a few days, before disappearing entirely.

Super interesting AirTag story making the rounds at the moment.

One punter flying SQ to MEL was waiting a week for his delayed baggage. The AirTag showed up in MEL so he drove there and eventually ended up in the Swissport offices where they let him use his phone to precisely locate his luggage which was stashed in their office.

Lot of fluff in the video, however it gets interesting at the 11:30 mark.

Some of the news coverage:

If he didn't have airtags he might not have seen it for weeks. I left my handbag in the boot today with an Airtag in it and I kept getting pinged about it.

We have an airtag inside a laptop case (required for high school child as we purchased a dell) - it is very accurate as it still works at school even though all students phones are locked into Yondr pouches - so can only bounce off teachers phones. I have used it to track my son when he hasn’t charged his phone.

Story in the Daily Mail today whose bags didn't arrive with him in MEL.He had flown SQ who if they answered his calls said they had no idea where they were. Using his Apple air tags he tracked them down to a room at MEL

We used AirTags to ensure luggage had arrived on very quick turn around in Doha. Meant we could wait for them and know they’d been loaded.

Using the same app I can see where my iPad is when I left it on the Qatar flight. It is still at Adelaide airport and removed by cleaners. . Now I just have to get Qatar to respond to where exactly it is but might try locating myself next week.

Thats the one a few posts above yours, I think.

QUESTION !! How easy are the Apple AirTags to use if you dont have an apple phone ? I have read there is a program for normal phones to track the AirTags  !! Is it easy to use ?? Would a little old lady like me be able to do it ?? If I went to a real Apple shop to buy the AirTags would the techy people set it all up for me ?? :D

As above, leave the Dark Side behind and go with the flow and buy an iPhone. :) There are several articles on Google on use of AirTags with Android, e.g. How to Use Apple AirTags with Android Phones | Capabilities and Limitations

Or maybe consider the Chipolo which has been reported to be good by @RooFlyer .

Our flight from Doha to Adelaide 2 weeks ago had an extremely tight connection thanks to late arrival into Doha. As we waited for luggage thinking it was a pointless wait assuming there's no way they could be loaded from Doha in time, a quick check on the apple tags showed that all three pieces had landed in Adelaide and so it was worth waiting for their arrival.

I remember you said you turned off tracking - I know I could google this but thought you might know. Can you turn tracking off from some and not all. I often leave my handbag in the boot of the car and it nags me that I've left it behind

I just turn off notifications. It still tracks but it doesn't ping you.

Read an article yesterday, about a bloke in the UK who had his Range Rover stolen. After replacing it with another, it too was nicked. But this time it had three AirTags hidden within it, and led the owner to it. Police then found a bunch of other stolen vehicles at the site. Thieves knew how to turn off the tracking systems, but tags hidden all over the place weren't found.
