Understood but Tile isn't limited to my devices, can be used on other people devices. For example I was showing my BIL who has a iphone how the Tiles work yesterday and he was able to see my tiles (and my android phone and tablet) when he downloaded the Tile app on his iphone because I logged into the Tile app with my account from his device. Which is handy if you lose your device but can borrow a friends.

Tile app is tied to a Tile app account not a specific users Google account or Apple account - therefore is device agnostic. After the demo was done I simply logged out of app on BIL's iphone, uninstalled it and then removed his phone from my Tile device list from my own phone.
 
So Apple technology has bowled up a new problem. On my iPhone which is still not authenticated I have just received a notification the an air tag of another owner has been travelling with me. You can get it to play music and it is one of ours that plays music. What the hack is going on ?

Almost certainly one of your own. Apparently some of the software changes designed to make stalking more difficult have had the bonus effect of causing alerts on your own tags. It seems to have been fixed in the IOS 16 beta.
 
I've been using Tiles for years. Now on all luggage, briefcase and on each bunch of keys. I have upgraded so now all are battery replaceable.
Very useful when I (often) lose my keys or misplace my iPhone !

I especially loved having it when Lufthansa left my bag in Frankfurt and I was in Vienna for only 24 hours. The baggage folk in Vienna gave me a link to track the bag and promised to deliver same "as soon as it arrived ". I checked link hourly , but no bag and then remembered the Tile. Went on the app to see that it was sitting at Vienna airport. I called the airport to be told that it had not yet arrived. I told them "yes it is there...please check". They came back and said "oh...it must've just arrived" I got my bag within the hour and only 4 hours before i was due to fly out !
 
I'm never travelling again without my Airtags.
I could see that my bags were not loaded by Iberia in Rome.
On the layover in Madrid, I spoke to lounge staff who could see from their own system that the bags hadn't been scanned but said there was nothing they could do as the process is to get to your final destination and then lodge a missing baggage form. So frustrating.
As soon as I arrived at our destination, I filed the form at the baggage office in Arrivals and could show them photos of my luggage and tell them exactly where the suitcases where. He seemed most interested in the fact that I had luggage tags on the outside of my cases with my name and phone number on them.
After reading so many horror stories of bags going missing, I'd bought a pack of (5) luminous green luggage tags and put the spare ones on my hand luggage.
This proved particularly helpful when at another destination, immigration took forever and when we finally got to the baggage hall, a staff member came up to us with our luggage because he noticed the matching luminous green tags on our cabin bags.
I'd packed a a couple of outfits in hand luggage in the event our bags didn't make it but still had to wait 3 days for Iberia to get us our bags - they continually told me they couldn't locate them even though I told them where they were. Other than that, my bags made all other flights including through Heathrow.
So now trying to get compensation from Iberia, for the things I had to buy for those 3 days.
 
Another success story for the AirTags. I flew into KUL on Sunday night. The queue for immigration was shocking, taking ~90 minutes. While waiting, I checked to make sure my bag had arrived. Well to my horror, my bag was travelling up the highway away from the airport while I helplessly watched. 8156D69C-6D29-41E6-9C86-7F9B8B031F19.png

When I eventually cleared immigration, I went straight to MH baggage services. This was where the AirTags were incredibly helpful - no wondering through the terminal looking for my bag, I had all the evidence I needed to show that someone had taken the wrong bag.

Big shout-out to Malaysia Airlines - they found a suitcase similar to mine that had been left at the airport, and contacted its owner, who confirmed he had taken the wrong bag. I was asked to wait at the airport while the suitcase was return, but MH, upon my request, were happy for me to head to my hotel and they agreed to courier my bag to me once it had been returned.

A little bit of fun - here’s a picture of me heading to my hotel (without my bag), and my bag returning to the airport. I waved at many of the cars passing by, but none returned my pleasantries.

I mentioned before about my Apple 'Find my' compatible Chipolo wallet tracking thing was giving false 'left behind' messages, seemingly whenever I started driving away, with wallet in my pocket or next to me. Now its started chirping randomly. I can't remember any event where it might have been damaged.

Will contact Chipolo to see what they say. But at the moment its a fail and stop-using.
 
On the last flight home from Sydney after 7 weeks of travel. Air tags worked well although we had no issues at all with one checked in suitcase each. The ONLY flight delay was at the start, due to fog out of Newcastle, and QF fixed us quickly. All QF flights other than Jet2 from UK to Rome and that was good, avoiding Heathrow. We were on the final direct flight back from Rome yesterday, full. So fantastic to be on the move again. The air tags were an extra piece of gear that are now in the travel coughnal.
 
And I have just booked a Lufthansa flight. If you don't turn off the tag will they refuse to carry it? being a German airline they probably will. so expect checked bags to have secondary screening past a bank of iPhones.

Is there an option to turn an AirTag off? I can't see it in the 'Find my...' app
 
Pretty ordinary conduct on the Airlines part , perhaps affecting sales and eventually a change of policy.
Given the success of the tags, one assumes that a work around will quickly appear ….. allowing pre programming your tag to be off during embarkation screening.
