Apple iPhone 6 / 6 plus

Dropped mine today in the office lobby (wet hands from being in the rain - it slipped right out). Did not fare well - the screen has produced some rather intricate patterns of the "smashed glass" variety.

I've owned the 3G, 4, 4S, 5, 5S and now 6 - this is the first one of mine to smash. Rather disappointing!

Ooops, sorry to hear this... any case used? or no help at all

As Sam mentioned above, I would quietly see if you can purchase AppleCare+ before going in to start a repair. At least that brings the cost of replacement down, and will apply for at least another case of accidental damage.

It's bloody painful isn't it.

I have a mazda too, and it works fine if you use the steering wheel controls (+ voice prompts) but calling someone from the handset directly you have to constantly tap source until they answer to get it connected. Pain in the cough....hoping a software update fixes it.

Nope, none of that works for me.
Bear in mind, when I first set it up. No joy, then it seemed to fix itself, everything fine for a few weeks , then, bingo, no more Bluetooth.
Very frustrating I have to say .
The thing that bothers me though is that my SIL ( works for me) has the 6+ and runs it just fine through the Mazda CX 5.
Go figure !!

Yeah, I had some issues with the 8.0.0 (ironically, none with the beta) that were resolved in both the same car as your SIL's and my own in 8.0.2. Frustrating if yours hasn't been fixed up yet.

I hope you bought wish cards from RACV for 5% off and then went to Woolies to buy DS gift cards and pick up some EDR QFF points?

I didn't do the RAVC part but did the Woolies trick though :P.
Went into DS again today and another incompetent sales guy said another six weeks... I was about to cut him until my sales girl turned up and said this week. Getting impatient even more than I would be when flying :(

Incompetent or realistic? Sorry but you aren't the only one waiting for their brand new iPhone promised to arrive weeks ago...

I have Optus facebook reps calling me every other day. Which is nice. But. They have no idea when stocks are arriving.

Amazing concept huh - what a business - having customers queuing up for weeks on end - many already paid the $1,000 to secure one but just have to wait patiently - amazing!!

Coincidence that the nexus 6 just got announced? Come back!

I registered with Telstra a few days before launch, signed up a few days after and received the phone (delivered to home on the Saturday) the weekend after launch.

SWMBO didn't want to upgrade but after seeing the thing in action on our HKG trip (camera) decided to get one. Telstra are out of stock and advise 6 + weeks wait.

Pays to act early!

I have to give credit where it is due.

We ordered our new iPhone 6's (space grey 64gb) through Telstra late afternoon October 3rd - our order was -2300 odd.

Both new phones received yesterday.

Still trying to get used to the "bigness" - glad I didn't get the plus !

Cheers,

Brooke

At least with a handbag you can walk out of the store with it.

I took a friend of mines that dropped his and smashed screen to Bondi Apple Store for a screen replacement which is around $120. The issue is that they don't do screen replacements yet and so gave a new phone instead. Worth a shot if you are near an Apple Store

Another interesting discussing article how mobiles are not made to last.

It is a common scenario: a customer is nearing the end of a 24-month mobile phone contract and despite taking impeccable care of the device, suddenly and for no apparent reason, it stops working like it should.
University of Sydney Professor of Media and Communications Gerard Goggin said technology companies across a range of consumer goods were increasingly using the "built-in obsolescence" tactic, so manufacturers could "flog" another product.

iPhone 6 spurs 'abnormal' repair numbers

Mr Twining said the longevity of hardware components, such as speakers, microphones and buttons, generally had not changed for 20 years.

He has, however, received an abnormally high rate of repair requests for the new iPhone 6 "from day one" following its launch last month.
"Previously all the phones could be gripped in your hand while you're walking down the street," Mr Twining said.
"But the iPhone 6 is a much bigger size and people are just balancing them on their hand rather than gripping them, and they're falling."

Mobile phones engineered 'not to last', expert says - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

The quote about is why I chose the iPhone 6 and not the iPhone 6 Plus, as to hold that device I feel like I'd be balancing it, not gripping it, but we all hold devices in our own ways, and if someone decided to balance their phone so to speak, it's on them for dropping it, not the manufacturer.

If you used a CC to pay for it (long bow may even be able to be covered if used CC to buy giftcards to buy it) then you should be covered by most CCs purchase protection (normally goes for 90 days).

Worth a check!

Finally got a case for mine; much easier to hold. Given I dropped it yesterday (not a scratch)

I have a case :p. But no phone. :(

There are some excellent ones on eBay for less than $10.
