Article: Qantas Expects International Airfares to Come Down

The aircraft sits all day in HND not sure QF can commit to that utilization for the 787.
Correct. I vaguely recall the opening of additional slots in HND just before Covid was somehow going to change that but I could be wrong. Or perhaps VA picking up some slots scuppered that plan?

I don’t think much will change for the next year at least.

Doubt we will see much growth on the domestic front, the margins they are getting at the moment are off the charts clearly. People are paying whatever, including me who had to buy some outrageously expensive last minute fares recently but what exactly is the other option.

The only extra aircraft arriving appears to be Virgin and MAX aircraft next year. Rex said they will try and add 2 later next year.

If you’re wanting to travel peak, book well ahead. If you’re after a longer haul domestic last minute, expect to be taken to the cleaners.
Yup, @Saab34 , I just got reamed on an unexpected short notice booking to the US... it's obscene to have to pay nearly $5k for Y 😔

Did you use your $50 discount code?
Don't get me started on THAT debaucle, @AIRwin . I activated the code and silly me thought that meant it linked to my ff acct and would apply it. After booking/paying and getting a receipt sent I saw no mention of a credit I did the unthinkable and rang CC. Needless to say, after being transferred numerous times over more than 3 hours they were useless. Supposedly they'll get back to me in 7 days, shame I depart in 3.

And that $50 code offer was salt in the wound... I had only just returned from a trip to the US where my outbound was changed 3 times and my return departure from DFW was changed/cancelled 5 times thus delayed by ~14hrs (w/ no offer of assistance and literally 1 email that was received after the fact... I kept checking the app to see the changes) and then had to ON in SYD due to ADL curfew... frustrating to get no 'apology' nor credit for that comedy of errors whilst EVERYONE gets a free $50 credit.

Will be interesting to see whether QF run a Black Friday or Xmas Sale as per previous years or with current demand they decide not to bother.

VA have just launched theirs…

Don't think QF would do that this soon, they will want to bank back the money they didn't make during the "pandemic".
If you look at prices for up to Oct to any where international, no way would prices come down this fast.
My 1.5 Aussie cents says, unlikely.

There is a bit of short term thinking here, we all know that at the moment demand exceeds supply but I for one am expecting things to start to normalise in the new year. Basic economics theory really, airlines have it good finally but that will also mean others see an opportunity.

No black friday sale for QF this year and even JQs sale is very limited in routes and dates.
