Good finish to the day and well done to Watson.

Now Smith needs a 100.

Could be an interesting Ashes series in Australia.

So Australia bats to end of Day 2, and either all out or declares on around 600, sending England in, who somehow remain composed and bat through the next 2 days... and it's a draw right? :p

Well done to Watson. Its been a long time coming. For the foreseeable future looks like he will be No. 3 in the batting. Makes you wonder about the current selector wisdom of throwing the new blokes like Khawaja and Hughes into the number 3 role. When you look back a long way at new batsmen coming into the side many of the greats started at 5 or 6 (those who weren't specialist openers) before making the transition. Ian and Greg Chappell, Alan Border, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting to name a few. I guess the theory being if you can't make it at 6, you definitely won't make it at 3.

The Americans have a term for it: Garbage Time.

Garbage time, also known as "junk time", is a term used to refer to the period at the end of a timed sporting event that has become a blowout when the outcome of the game has already been decided, and the coaches of one or both teams will decide to replace their best players with substitutes.[SUP][1][/SUP] This serves to give those substitutes playing time experience in an actual game situation, as well as to protect the best players from the possibility of injury.[SUP][2]

Assuming Englands brittle batting doesnt crumble under pressure.

Smith gets his century with a 6 off Trott :D 5/384. I think the Aussies will open their shoulders now - 450 in quick time would be nice and get Engkabd in shortly after tea for a session

Haddon out for 30. 6/384

nice to wake up to Australia doing well.

So we declared at 9/492 with Smith 138 n.o. - that really helps his average.

As I thought, the tailenders threw the bat - Faulkner, Starc and Harris all with better than a run a ball.

Now can we bowl England out twice in 3 days? Should I remain an eternal optimist ??

Great to see Smith with unbeaten ton.

Not sure we can bowl England out twice.

No future in being an eternal optimist either. ;)

Good to see England do well in their first session, now they just need to hold it together for Day 3, rain on Day 4 and it'll be a draw on Day 5.

Poms are batting this one out. 1/108 early in the second session. Cook hasn't had a score this series and didn't get one today. Unless something happens soon it looks like they'll finish today at about 3/280 and this match will be petering out to a draw tomorrow. Of course they could go mad and score 600 and Australia gets bowled out for 100...

Warks, don't give Tony Hancock any ideas.

1/118 as I drive home - jus finished filling the car with petrol

No need to rush home , this is becoming a really slow day to watch , few wickets , very slow run rate.

edit : Murphy's law , you post something like i did and a wicket falls....Root out ...lol

Wasn't too bad a score when I woke this morning. 46 more so they don't have to follow on right? Assuming it doesn't rain all day (4).
