Isn't there a small replica that is used for "trophy" purposes?

Otherwise, kind of makes the phrases "retains the Ashes" or "reclaims the Ashes" or so on rather irrelevant.

That's too logical a statement to make in relation to The Ashes.

I was driving through the early afternoon - a long boring Hume Highway trip - with the radio on. Commentators were building it up into a possible English victory. I was starting to believe them until Prior got out. Then they lasted until lunch so I was still believing the worst could happen. That's the sort of result which could turn a series like in 1981. I missed about 15 minutes when I got home and turned on to see the last over bowled and the final wicket fall. You beauty! I must say it felt more like relief than anything - when you have Pom relatives that's all you ever think of!

Great to see them 'returning' to their rightful home. As a kid I was there the day we won them back in 1974-75 at the SCG my first ever Test. Was at The Oval in 1989 when the celebrations of the 4-0 win were in full swing although Ashes had gone a couple of Tests earlier.

I really hope the team has turned the corner and we can give SA a strong tussle. Funnily enough SA hasn't beaten Australia in a series in SA since their return but have won two series here.

My FB feed has been largely lacking contributions by friends from the Old Dart.

Funnily enough 6 months ago they were very chirpy

Just watched the final day highlights online.

I'm still unsure about the DRS system. Some questionable umpiring overall in this one.

The confidence is back which will go a long way to helping them play better.

Before we start lauding this Australian team as a great team lets not forget that in each test England had Australia in trouble in the first innings but poor fielding and follow up bowling and Australia has got out of trouble and posted a score which was too much for England and then they attacked in 2nd innings. If England had batted first in any of the first 3 tests I do not think the result would have been 3-0 to this point.

And I know South Africa does not have a good record against Australia in South Africa but South Africa is not England either. They are a quality team and their bowlers will test out the Australian batsmen.

An English colleague of mine was saying before the 1st test in England that it was going to be 10-0.

He conceeded defeat about 3 days ago.

I predicted 5-1 to England but was totally wrong. Looks like 5-3 to Australia now.

News just in from the ICC, where a specially convened panel have introduce a new rule with immediate effect. Two points will be awarded for a Test Match Win, one for a draw and 0 for a loss. this replaces the older system where just one point was awarded for a win, and nothing for a draw or loss.

This directly impacts the current Ashes series which is now wide open. Australia has 3 points, but a draw and a win for England would see the series levelled and the Ashes retained. Two wins for England would see a series victory. If Australia wins the next test the ICC panel will reconvene.
