Inaccuracies in reporting:-

CBS originally stated that Asiana was part of Oneworld.
Richard Quest (CNN) said that QF fly 777 to the US.

Some of the information coming from the reports do seem alarmist

- That the 777's have a history of fires (1 significant fire from what I can gather)
-They seem to link the BA incident to this one, it seems very early to be drawing any links apart from the phase of flight
-The Asiana cargo fire has some significance to this, even though the Li Ion batteries were involved in the Cargo accident
I cannot believed that some pax evacuated taking their luggage, wtf!!! Scumbags!

It seems to be a common occurrence with evacuations amongst certain Asian carriers (google the CX emergency landing in HKG for evidence)

How sad! Ashamed to be Asian, being an ex cabin crew for SQ, I can tell you now, I would kick cough if that ever happens on my flight, personally I think these people should be criminally charged for hindering emergency evacuation!

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the engines were P&W, not rolls. That would seem to preclude the BA fault. It may be a similar defect or design fault... But they're completely different engines.

Have you read the QF32 book by Richard De Crespigny? When they were evacuating there was one pax who turned up at the exit with his carry on and challenged the FA in effect saying "it's here now, what are you going to do about it. " The FA threw the bags clean across the cabin. Love that story. :)

But lack of fuel to an Engine (as in the BA case) is still lack of fuel (even P&W don't run on just air).

My point is that it's too early to draw any inference between the two accidents, hence I feel the comments were alarmist.

Is it a decent read? I've been thinking about picking it up.

Awesome to see so many evacuate safely, it looks like the 777 is a pretty hardy aircraft.

Surely there must be some CCTV of the accident.

Will be very interesting to see if there is.

Make sure you set aside a day or two, because you're not going to get much else done until you get through it. It took me a day to finish (give or take) because I couldn't put it down.

It's a great comfort to see just how much of a beating some aircraft can take and still be put down (relatively) intact.

Can you prove that those that took belongings hindered others to the point of injuries or death? At this stage probably not, in the future you might, but you're just as likely not to, so while it's bad practice, you're jumping the gun suggesting their actions have lead to injuries or death.

Where in their post do they suggest that it has lead to injuries or death?

There have been plenty of incidents previously where the selfish actions of passengers has caused death or injury to others in similar circumstances, there should be zero tolerance to repeated incidents that have the same potential, ZERO.

I couldnt agree more with your comments and sentiment. Those that deem themselves to be above the instructions that apply to evacuation and take baggage etc with them should be charged and banned from ever flying again !
