ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Just a guy with cash, no debts and no wife ;)
Put the family tax bills through my CC quarterly about $20K
Going to accountant to claim Visa fees charged this year
So some times in credit before paid and sometimes not......how will that be looked upon by the ATO?

Get yourself a wife then you'll have no cash, debts and a nice shoe collection.

If an accountants doing it presumably it will be on a case by case basis so some will qualify as a deduction some will not.

People seem to think they can just claim it and it'll be ok. Well it is ok until you're audited then if you've been doing it wrong they'll go back in time as far as they want and even relatively small deductions can add up to a lot over a decade or so

I am going to start paying a bit with Westpac Black Amex and Velocity Ultimate Amex together with a favourite MasterCard.
That Westpac card will warehouse points for Kris Flyer and I have decided to run up Velocity points in July.

Hi all,

So as an individual I should put my credit card in CREDIT and then pay ATO.
I should have:( ensured that PAYG, that is due in JULY 2013 was paid in June 2013 to claim the fees as a deduction in 2013 TAX assessment?
Therefore losing the time 45days interest free....but if cash flow not an issue the above is the best option?

To pay early or not too...? I think the intrest free period is more valuable than putting the CC payment fee in this years tax year... However I'm going to pre-pay some things due next week so that they can be included and deducted this year...

Also delaying some invoicing for tomorrow to "delay" some tax for next year...

The things we do :p

I cannot tell you about CBA but I have moved early to pay bills due on July 21st and July 29th using cards that will go "obsolete" on July 21st. It certainly appears that Amex Ultimate want 2.9 cents per point from July 21st so that is a huge increase from just under a cent per point.

As long as you give them a nice parting gift cove... give them something for them to remember you with ;)

I am on it shintaro10x. Of course it is made a little more difficult by us travelling to the UK but I think I have it covered as I have 5 quarterlies left to pay.
Have a full 13 days left to handle these so yes I feel confident that I will be remembered by Amex.

With time running short for the final use of American Express Ultimates for our multiple quarterlies we were pleased to receive emails and texts from them to alert us both on how close each of our three accounts were to the credit limits. This game concludes on July 21st and I worded up my partners so they do their last payments by 21st July.
We are off to London this afternoon...

Because we go from Perth we go SQ J and then SQ Suites. It was about 90,000 points ($60,000 spend on a Westpac Kris Amex)so that is about $600 for the one way Suites Saver plus redemption charge to go from Singapore to London.
Pretty good is what I am thinking. Of course Paris has lower landing fees if you are thinking of your travel redemption charges.
Also today one of my partners is going to South Africa having redeemed Kris points for two business class tickets through South African/Qantas flight.

is anyone using a business C/C for this? and if so, which cards are favourable for it?

cheers

To the best of my knowledge there are very few "good" point-earning business cards other than Amex-issued Amexes, which are no good for ATO. You could try the NAB Business Qantas card (a MasterCard) for 0.75 QFF points per dollar - we have these at work and have put some tax dollars through them before without issue.

"A Melbourne woman accused of laundering criminal proceeds is served with a $2.6 million tax bill."

Some people have all the luck.....CC anyone?

Even criminals have to pay tax on their earnings in Australia which of course is only fair for the rest of us.
