ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I pay company and BAS tax on Amex, but I think I will pass on your suggestion. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, I wouldn't advise it as a regular strategy. I wonder what happens to points earned before bankruptcy. Do you get to keep them?

So instead of paying my taxes each quarter via direct deposit from my account, I should have zero on my ANZ Amex card, put the tax funds into the CC so in credit, then receive all the QFF points and no CC cash advance charges.

Yes if that is a 1.5 point/dollar card the points cost 0.83 cents.
Now you can enjoy paying taxes!
Check with your accountant regarding whether the charges are tax deductible.

I can see a swag of QFF points coming my way each quarter, commencing next week, then to find international J flights, well that is the question.

I have about half with Kris SQ and half with QF.
Then if QF is a no I go thru SQ.
QF is great for domestic J and SQ is a winner for longhaul in style.

I do exactly the same. SQ far easier to obtain business class out of Perth especially to Europe. QF good for domestic.

Then if you have lots of points you can switch to the lower cost and lower earning rate Westpac Kris Flyer Platinum Visa and the Citi Select Visa to get 1 point per dollar at 65 cents per point rather than 83 cents thru Westpac Kris Flyer Amex and the Amex Ultimate cards.

Any persons in a position such as myself where you have Child Support Obligations via the CSA, you also can benefit from earning a few points when you have to make your payments.

They dont take Amex or Diners - just Visa & M/Card - so earning a few points can put a little smile on your face when making the payments.

Another regular payment that is due each quarter are the Superannuation guarantee payments. Can anyone recommend an innovative clearing house that will accept c'card payment with a modest surcharge?

Wow: Nice that I got my tax bill spread over more manageable easy to pay bite size pieces. I hope they extend it.

I know you posted this ALONG time again.

I have just finished my 2008-2009 personal tax and managed to spread it out over weekly payments....

The bank of the payment slips says "Payments cannot be made by credit cards"

I rang the ATO and they were vague about it but said it should be fine.

My original lump sum also said "Payments cannot be made by credit cards"

:shock::shock:

Either way I am being good and paying twice per week, to maximize the 250 points per tranasction promo

I recently paid my BAS and company tax, accessing the correct website here and with AMEX

The information on those standard forms is now out of date. You most certainly can pay by credit card. I've paid my last two BAS using my Amex plat charge and reaped 1.5 points per dollar.

We pay our BAS and PAYG each month this way since learning it on here about 4-5 months ago.. LOVE IT.. need to look at other AMEX options shortly as i am about to be back to 1 point per dollar this month i think.

Gee DS you really unleashed a beauty with your post in April,2009.
You have made a lot more of us have way more FF points than money in the bank.
Thank you

I am hoping somebody can clarify this for me, I have a tax bill from last financial year, and an instalment payment for this quarter. Looking at the ATO site here PAYG instalments - how to complete your activity statement it tells me that I can not pay my PAYG with a credit card. It also says on the back of my Instalment Activity Statement that I can B-Pay but (NOT credit cards)

Can anyone confirm if it is in fact still possible to make payments for both of these via the web portal here How to pay

Anybody done this recently....? And confirm payments can still be made this way...?:p

I've paid my PAYG easily without issues using the portal.

Both your annual tax liability and regular instalments (quarterly/monthly) can still be payed using credit card.

How to pay

I suspect some pages on the ATO website do not reflect this properly.

I have been paying it this way for the past month or so, mainly to obtain some extra bonus points with an Amex promo.

I rang the ATO and they confirmed they have been receiving the payments.
