ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

If anyone is interested the ATO is very flexible with payment and lodgement extensions at the moment.

I'm in a bit of a quandary ATO is happy to extend my payments due to us being in a flood affected area. If I take them up on the offer, it means I miss booking heaps of points to the KrisFlyer Visa before the changeover.

decisions, decisions.

I also got a month extension on my BAS, as I was in Brisbane, I only used a week but it allowed the credit card charge to roll into the next month.

If you are stuck and can't pay your BAS for any reason then you can ring them up and ask for a 2 week extension, usually they don't care as long as you ring them.

I guess I wouldn't try this every month but can be a useful.

On your personal tax return if you get a large bill mine was $12,000 one year  I just phoned and was allowed to pay it over 6 monthly payments, and nice credit card bite sizes, ok you pay some interest but if you are broke or your credit card is not that big then it can come in handy.

Hope NOT! I would be very unhappy!
I posted below a screen shot of the message I received - I will try to post it again.

If you click the thumbnail below you can see the message I received when I tried to input my Plat Credit Card number - but others seem to have no problem - go figure.

Cruiser Elite have you tried the phone pay system with your card for paying the Tax Office?
Use your card on the automaton 1 300 number and if you are not outside your limit it should go thru pretty close to instantly!

Don't be afraid of calling the automaton at the Taxation Office.
Mrscove thinks it is one of my close friends.
Just always write down the receipt numbers and note which account you are paying.
It is very easy and if you pay more than one bill you will be amazed at how quickly those receipt numbers are changing.
You will realize how many customers the Tax Office has who pay on a credit card.
I posted a summary of my thoughts on the blog Frequent Flyer Fiend.

Credit Card works

Sorry about the false alarm - have just made another 2 ATO payments using the AMEX Credit Card and both went straight through - have no idea how or why that hiccup occurred last week - again sorry for wasting band width.

saving mine for the 27th of this month.
CC billing finishes on 26th.
$40,000 due to go on AMEX on 27th.........
yippee!!!!

Yippee is not a term I would use for paying the ATO 40 grand! Enjoy the points though

Finding this thread has actually let me enjoy paying my tax each month. I'd almost go so far as to say I enjoy it

thank you for that.
i get double points for paying on AMEX. worth every penny for CC surcharge

I wouldn't have thought that the ATO could tell what type of AMEX you were paying with. I've try and alternate between the platinum charge and credit cards if I haven't paid the credit card before the due date and there is insufficient credit available.
