ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Buzzard you could buy multiple properties and go LAND TAX instead which tends to be a wealth tax run by State Governments.
Payroll tax really hurts as you basically have 19 staff and the twentieth is the phantom called payroll tax. If you have 190 staff it is 10 times worse.

So the economy of scale is just a myth!

I know this would have been discussed previously but forgive me for not going through the 360 pages of this thread completely. Simply want to know which banks currently award points for ATO payments. The three that I know of at the moment are:
1. Citibank (no longer, thanks Cove).
2. Westpac
3. ANZ
Do AMEX (non bank) issued cards also award points for ATO? What about NAB, CBA and others? Also do any banks impose caps on how many points they will award on ATO payments?
Thanks

My ANZ Platinum AMEX earns 1.5/$1 on ATO. Sweeps to QF at 1:1

So they stopped paying points for card members that joined after a certain date but others (old customers) still get points for ATO?

No, it seems that if your Citi Select has direct sweep to QF it may earn points at the ATO, otherwise nothing. I don't think it is anything to do with joining dates.

If that is true then I think that confirms that QF points are both cheap and worthless ;)

Qantas points really have value when you travel in J from Perth to east coast cities so I still enjoy QF points. It has been quite a while since we have attempted an international points redemption as QFI went missing out of Perth.

BTW charge fees are tax deductable so that brings down the total cost to around $1670 for 1 x return J to Europe .

Reports there is a cap with this card.....any issues your end?

I did speak to ANZ some time ago and was told there is no cap, mind you I didn't specifically ask about ATO points just points earn in general.
Oddly enough last month ANZ did cap a Bpay on the Visa at 7,500.
I do not pay a lot of tax but pay a lot of other things on the card. Most months I earn 60K plus on this card.

Cheers.

ANZ agent told me their "very strange" formula for point capping yesterday - you can see my post on the ANZ thread. SWMBO went ahead and signed up for a Platinum on top of her recent Black (50K harvesting) .... funny thing the Platinum limit is >4x the black so that's what we used to load up very recent transactions ;) Points should post shortly....I can see them sitting there on internet banking - so all maybe well.

I've been given a BAS to pay on behalf of someone. They gave me the direct debit details which shows the CRN. What else would I need to be able to pay on line? I've only been paying personal tax before.

EFT code and you're set to go.

+ their money in your account before hitting the enter button ;)

OK, spoke to accountant's assistant, EFT and CRN are same number (?). Great ... who's EFT, the business owner?? Sorry, more than a noob question.

I think the direct sweep has ended recently for ATO, it was working even after they supposedly stopped paying points for ATO but as usual all good things must come to an end. I presume it's carte Blanche but I'd be interested to hear if anyone is still getting points I suppose there might be a slight chance it's like WOW EDR & they just cancel the points if you get a bit too greedy.

Quite possible; I don't have direct sweep to QF with them so I can't claim to be absolutely up to date. They really are a bit haphazard (not to mention sneaky), eg some cards they manage (such as the Diners Mastercard) still earn points at the ATO, and some don't. And they are just as likely to stop it at any time without notice.

Just downloaded my Westpac Earth statement and, here goes - Effective from 9 November 2014, we will be introducing some changes to the Westpac Earth conditions of use. For payments to the ATO using your Earth Black MasterCard, you will not earn any Qantas points. For payments using your Earth Black American Express card, you will earn 0.75 Qantas points.
There goes another card, getting less and less.

Our statements from Westpac are still more than a week away for Mrscove who has a Black Earth card.
I will be reading all my Westpac cards closely as I have a number of them for various uses.
Thanks Dianne for the early warning.
