ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Hi all, for what it's worth, I paid 60+k in ATO this month along with a daily diet of Google Adwords spend of about 1k per day and yesterday they declined the google debit . I rang and asked what was the problem and the person said I need to put you on to a supervisor. Supervisor said they are no longer honoring Amex payments on my account but would accept if I moved to the MasterCard for the regular debits, figure that one out. And the last google debit 1k was the next transaction next to ATO 66k!!!!!!!!.
Google OUT , ATO OK.

Maybe the bank has a poor merchant deal with Google (it would have good negotiating power, after all) and aren't earning much money from those transactions.

Yes, I think you may be correct. Clearly more % in ATO than google. If anyone is under the illusion that ATO pmts are not noticed, I can confirm they are. They were more worried about my 1k google than 66k ATO which were side by side on statement. Let's hope they leave ATO as is. Cheers

What card?

Westpac black Altitude. They clearly know and allow ATO as there is no doubt they noticed a whopping ATO next to the pittance 1k google.

I would tell westpac you'll use another bank's card and see how quick they turn around.

Have refunds requested so cheques should come while I am travelling on their dime.
It is SQ and AA miles for round the world this time seeing those pesky points keep building up.

You could always test the water and report back - AFF is about giving info as much as taking!

Here is my feedback. I paid 150K BAS plus $ 2175 ATO fees.
Had me worried for a few days as nothing posted then everything came through.
This is a minor overpayment and I am hoping the ATO will send me a refund cheque.
That's 900,000 Altitude points when the double point bonus comes through at the end of my first 3 months.
At a cost of about $1200 after the tax deduction, there seems to be no better value !

Making points off the ATO is the first step. The second step is using those points for the best flights available to you and your family. Just don't think economy class as a cash purchase is more suitable for low cost economy flight.

Very nice for those that have recently obtained the card.

I unfortunately have a sneaking suspicion on review of this bonus that ATO payments are going to come under their microscope when they realise they underestimated people's ability to pay their tax bills. (Ie volumes are way higher than they expected!)

This month I lent a family member $150,000 of ATO bill to pay. He will appreciate the extra Kris Flyer miles to take his friends to Europe again.

I disagree. They make their merchant fee either way, and on premium cards it's quite high. If they haven't factored in the points cost, they probably shouldn't be running a bank. Clearly 3x promos are not sustainable but hey it has you all spending like blind Freddie, so marketing success! ;)

I must get advice here on how to spend all my ATO Westpac points for flying SQ pointy end.

When you find out let me know.;) I have had to revert to flying other airlines due to my inability to book J on SQ anymore. Last booking was on an MH17 flight so even keener to get back in the fold.

Just send those points to Kris Flyer and always look for Saver Suites,First class then Business class in that order on SQ.

This thread has reminded me I need to get my Westpac card away from Qantas direct sweep and start earning a few more points, currently earning 0.625 per dollar on Mastercard, I am sure I can do better.

Then I need an office visit from Cove, I am potentially wasting over $150,000 that is going to Bpay.

If anybody is using ANZ V or M/C for ATO and not getting many QF points, it would be worth upgrading to the "NEW" ANZ BLACK CARD, around $200 extra fee PA, but points earn goes from a dismal .5 to getting close to reasonable at .75 ( I think 1;1 is the benchmark for M&V)

Would be interested in hearing the credit card earn from others as shown on activity statement, personally for the last 12 months I am between 1.7 & 2M

I wonder if they can do that. If you are tracking and operating your card as you have in the past and no prior notification has been received then something doesn't seem right.
