ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

This might be relevant to others who acquired the Westpac Altitude Black card and were intending to utilize the double points promotion. I posted the meat of it in the Altitude Black thread(http://www.australianfrequentflyer....de-black-has-landed-49447-18.html#post1071582) but seeing as a lot of people would have been using that card to pay ATO, its probably relevant here.

I have an uncomfortable feeling that they may end up using 3 months from date of account opening(and not from card activation) as the period for double points, based on what I've experienced so far. So for those who were keeping their cards unactivated until a more "opportune" moment to activate them and get the 3 months double points period from then, just have to be aware that they might by default only give double points from when account was opened and may have to chase up the full 3 months from card activation point later. Not saying I'm certain this is going to be the case but something to be aware of.

I am also in the 3 months double points period for altitude black and planning some large ATO payments.
Anyone have a feel for how much " overpayment" will be tolerated? Is there anything stopping us paying double the usual BAS to maximise points during this 3 month period? When ATO refunds the excess payment, what will happen to the Altitude points?

You could always test the water and report back - AFF is about giving info as much as taking!

That is my plan. But as I have only had this card for 1 month and have never made an ATO overpayment in the past, I thought someone with more experience than myself at this may wish to give advice. Happy to report back later, but minimal experience thus far limits the advice I can give!

The refunds I received in 2014 came back as cheques so the points earned were not reduced. I did not overpay on purpose but when you do about fifty payments in a year for various entities these things can happen.

I made an inadvertent over payment. My accountant contacted the ATO and they arranged a credit to nominated bank account within about 2.5 weeks.

Thanks Cove. I shall report back in August.
Not planning to overpay on purpose, but may not have time to work out exactly how much is due...

I certainly hope I haven't created a whole new group behaving weirdly with their 90 days of doubling on Westpac Black.

I've been waiting around 6 weeks for return of payment. It was suggested on here it would happen automatically but maybe I will need to apply for it.

Sorry to ask,I have a Citiselect Visa signature and I DO get QF points paying ATO, are there any other Citibank cards that earn QF points as I need another card for Mrs B

Citibank said all their cards would no longer pay points on ATO but the Qantas version of Citi Select has in some cases continued to pay. Fortunately all the Qantas points transfer monthly so they cannot call those points back easily.

Sounds like you can't count...gee whiz Mr ATO...sorry I didn't mean to pay that extra $100K of tax...!

have inadvertently over paid ATO twice now, bad me, but once when the Optus Smartpay timed out. i did get a refund directly to my account, but it did take 3 phone calls. they wanted to put me into credit, i said computer says no!

A slightly disturbing issue - checking my WW EDR card and haven't had points posted for a recent ATO transaction. A really small one too.

Any Woolies card holders had any issues in last couple of weeks?

Card has not been cancelled - I'm still using it... points just haven't come through....

Mine is OK on my June-July statement for a fairly small payment made early July.

Thanks... I'll wait a little longer before calling and querying....

Please do not call...! Wait for other members to report the same to see what's happening....

If it's still working (and in your case just a delay in posting points) better you not call up and give them an opportunity to think about it...:!:
