ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

The Amex site doesn't mention reduced earn with ATO and specifically says no cap for the free Velocity/Qantas cards. Very odd when contrasted with the expensive Amexes

Suppose 1 point wasn't very attractive when you considered the Amex surcharge in the days of plenty

Imagine that credit limits on these cards are often low which could make them clumsy for large ATO payments

Probably won't as Citi is the issuer. Others on this forum who hold this card might have a differing experience.

Citi Bank Cards do not pay on ATO spend.

Knowing that the Westpac Platinum Kris Amex earn rate is dropping by 0.25 points per dollar on April 1st encouraged two cards out of two wallets seeing they are his and hers separate cards. Kris Flyer miles at under 1 cent each are quite valuable so that was easy.

Yes mine got a big workout today too. I'll still be using it at 1.25 pts/$, lets hope it doesn't get any worse.

Yes hammered the KF card last week as a last hurrah. Will also be using it post-April, given I am re-orienting more flights to SQ

My Velocity Amex statement turned up today WITHOUT the points for a $1500 payment to the ATO. Two months ago I got points for an ATO payment of about the same amount.

Suggest you check the Velocity Amex website for T&C. I have a Velocity Platinum AMEX... the website talks about 0.5 pt per dollar but I haven't used this card for ATO payments. I think only half a point combined with the ATO surcharge for AMEX makes it marginal to use. I did pay an Australia Post bill with this card and can see only 0.5pts per dollar for that. So won't be using it at AP again. But you do get 3x points for restaurants which is a nice boost!

Sounds like the Amex issued card. I only use mine for restaurants and take out so even my coffees throughout the day earn 3x points (hooray for retailers who don't have a minimum charge for credit purchases).

Two new cards are HSBC for Mrscove and Qantas Credit Union for me. We do like a point a dollar Visa and MasterCards.
HSBC card has a capping and is in progress to issue shortly.
We may use these for everything but ATO in the short term.

Hi,
Previous Westpac Black user, then shifted to Woolies - but with a larger bill looming and the $2.5k cap - looking for another option. Can't really stomach fees over $150ish per annum (already got a host of other cards for other purposes)
Can anyone advise on BWest Qantas Rewards Platnm (Or Earth/Black if you have that one) for ATO points earn? Should be 0.75/$ for plat, or 1.0/$ on earth
From Terms and conditions I can only see "Government expenses" excluded but nothing specific to ATO/utilites as you see in other provider's terms and conditions.

It's such a movable non feast :( are these comments valid as of today :

WOW is paying but to a cap of $2500 pm.

Bank West unkown (?)

Amex red Velocity no good.

If you were to pay say $12,500 ATO on your WOW credit card I think you would get 7500 QF points for a cost of $52.50 so it should work but not as well as before due to the earn rate of half a point per dollar after you reach $2,500 spend.
