ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I can confirm that WoW is paying as per Coves calcs and that HSBC is still working (although i only put 16k on it)

Edit: NAB qantas premium just posted along with the advice on ATO not posting from May.

I think Cove confirmed before that Bankwest works

I have just had a fail on this. B/w World M/C ... made the statement but no points. Unless someone is using the old Platinum card there may be a difference.

Silver doughnut Visa Platinum QF card is confirmed as still active.

Last month I paid my ATO tax bill using my Jetstar Platinum Mastercard and received 1 QFF point per dollar. (Annual cap is 100,000 points). I usually use my HSBC Visa (its 200,000 limit is not threatened by my tax obligations) but I had run it too close to its credit limit.

I thought NO POINTS for Jetstar MasterCard ??

BW World MC worked for me this month

The JQ MC is issued by the silver donut ... and by all accounts the silver doughnut is still paying.

thanks...can someone confirm this first hand ??? I still have a big bill to pay and don't want to waste the points. at worst I will use the QEDRCC and get the shandy of points but if I can get 1:1 I will.
Have not applied for the QCU card as I hold a number of cards, some inactive and guess that QCU will not like that
thanks in anticipation

Have cleared our two Kris Flyer miles earning credit cards to zero so I can use them for 21st. I did prepay to get a chunk of 1.5 miles to the dollar just before the end of March. Had to grab the bargain is what I was thinking.
No need to use my warehoused Altitude Black points as they do not expire.

From the BankWest PDS at http://www.bankwest.com.au/library/pdf/PDS_20120629-163837.pdf"

1. Overview of Bankwest Qantas Rewards
If you hold a Bankwest Qantas MasterCard (“Classic”),
Bankwest Qantas Gold MasterCard, Bankwest Qantas
Platinum MasterCard or Bankwest Qantas World MasterCard
Credit Card you will earn Qantas Points on Eligible Purchases,
which will automatically be credited to your Qantas Frequent
Flyer Account once a month once you provide us with your
Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number.

Qantas Points are earned on all purchases
made using the Card Account except:

cash advances;

Balance Transfers;

interest charges;

credit fees and charges

bank fees and charges;

transactions we decide are disputed due
to being fraudulent or which involve an
abuse of your Card Account

foreign exchange purchases;

travellers cheques;

all purchases for gaming or gambling
transactions including gambling chip
purchases and online gambling purchases;

Government charges (other than GST
payable in connection with the purchase of
goods or services on which you earn
Qantas Points);

Credit card protection insurance;

Business Related Expenses; and

any other transactions which from time
to time may be excluded by us

So the question is whether "Government charges" includes payments to the ATO or not.

Also, no exclusion of BPay spend. That is encouraging.

This weekend I heard from a friend who was experiencing a processing error on a fairly new credit card. These sorts of things do happen and on that particular card I have been using for lots of personal expenses that can only go on Visa or MasterCard so I could not think what the problem actually was in paying the ATO. Try again another day may work after checking the credit limit is not being exceeded.

I doubt you'll get an answer to this question! My view is that it definitely isn't and that those banks who exclude ATO payments do it explicitly rather than relying on this clause. But this question has been debated ad nauseum and I have yet to see a definitive reply, some banks have suggested that "Government charges" include ATO spend, but as far as I know none have actually enforced that with out specifically excluding ATO in their T&C's. Doesn't mean someone wont try though!

After a late night I tried exceeding a credit card limit without realizing it so I managed to get multiple declines on a Points/Miles earning card. I transferred funds and two minutes later that money vanished into that big black hole.

Agree. We know that "government charges" originally meant Federal/state fees on the accounts as opposed to legitimate payment of taxes to the ato, but they will still rely on this ambiguous clause if you call them to debate it.

And because you are just dealing with call centre drones, it's not their fault and they don't really know any better anyway.

EDIT: Just read back and I see that the results are inconsistent, so maybe I wont risk it.

I'm still hoping someone has tried the AMEX Red Velocity ... and might report plse? If I had a tiny bill to pay, that would be me, but with a largish bill I'd like not to fail.

split up the payment and give it a whirl?
