ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I am loading Visa and MasterCards by BPay to pay various tax bills. I have multiple amounts due for chunky sums seeing the credit limits are smaller than the bills.
It's raining tax bills here!

Win Win for you Cove.....

You get your QFF & Lots of calls to your automated chick at the ATO he he...:lol::lol:

Yes she is my gal now!

Should have kept following your posts on this cove, have been using the WBC Krysflyer Amex for tax payments because the Citibank Buisness and Plat just didn't quite deliver. With the reduction in Visa costs this changes the game I think and think I'll need to upgarde to the Select, unfortunately only got the Plat in April so believe I can't reapply until 9 months is up.

My behaviour change on who I use now to pay the ATO has been extreme this month. It is Visa and MasterCard point a dollar or better cards for points at the highest 0.48 cents each.
I begrudgingly did some Kris points on Amex for Mrscove and some Velocity points for me at a gross cost of 0.833 cents per point.
Will AMEX notice? Serfty says they won't change and he is pretty tuned in to stuff like this but in a years time from now AMEX will probably have a billion dollar hole in their payments system as taxpayers don't rush to change anything.

I'm going to ring coves chick at the ATO today to see what all the hype is about, hope she is nice to me like web-browser-wendy... :p

Seinfeld Season 5, Episode 12: The Stall - Remember when Kramer was calling his phone sex girl Erika who actually turned out to be Jerry's girlfriend Jane?

I'm tipping this scenario is just about to play out again Shintaro - be ready.

Very good Cruiser Elite.....you can be on our quiz night team instead of us doing the Frequent Flyer Point School ! Heck that recall of Seinfeld is legendary! Kramer and Jerry would be so proud of you.

I am happy as a pig in the proverbial today and I must say thanks a zillion to JS for starting this thread in 2009.

One of my friends did a pilot show with Jerry so I watch his career more closely because of that.

Using Visa now instead of Amex saves 0.3533 cents per dollar....before you know it that can save you quite a few pennies.
$1,000 in Visa processing Visa fees now gets you 209,333 points if you earn a point a dollar.

Cove, if you get 1.33 KF points per dollar with Citiselect, then why have you kept the Krisflyer Amex/Visa? I am going to get the citiselect thanks to your recommendation, but i think i will have no further use for the KF amex/visa if i do...

I plan to keep the Westpac Amex for at least a few more months as we are Westpac customers which allows me to cash a large cheque then get to my office 5 minutes later to pay out multiple $50000 amounts on our 2 different cards.
It is now more of a backstop as the Visa cards for Westpac Kris Flyer Platinum are no longer in our wallets seeing the points are half a point per dollar. Westpac Amex Kris Flyer is now quite expensive.
Gail Kelly might wake up soon and fix their dwindling market share in credit cards at Westpac but I am not too hopeful.
I did get the BPay increase today so loading CitiSelect will be much quicker plus loading other Qantas point per dollar Visa and MasterCards will be very easy. This month was a bit of a long winded struggle as I had eight quarterly tax bills and a BAS bill all at the same time and a $50,000 BPay per day was painful.

I am not giving anyone a blanket recommendation on Citi as their back room can be awfully frustrating. You will be tested on your scale of patience and tenacity so don't send champagne and chocolates just yet!
I hope you get thru the Citi challenge without any arguments or screams. Oh and good luck with your application!
I ran up some Velocity points on Amex so I have a third set of points even though they cost a bit more as I wanted the flexibility to not having to buy a long haul ticket.

Well I've had the Citibank Platinum M/card for a while now so I'm hoping i can simply switch over to Select. Citi Select also allows transfers to Velocity I see but there is no mention of the conversion rate on their website - they seem to want to keep these a secret.

Yes Egg there are multiple places to transfer points that can be warehoused inside CitiSelect including Velocity.
I was hoping not to be the guinea pig when it comes to reward redemptions to more than one place as I am very happy with Singapore Airlines redemption availability.
Running up a million on the Velocity Amex ( instead of messing with a winner) does cost $3,533 extra less the potential tax saving and I don't think I need to do that many without doing a product test.
My son is prepared to do the long haul test for me seeing he has a holiday break shortly.

Another few thousand on the credit card, I really need to get a new credit card as I am only getting 0.5 points per dollar.

At the moment if another bank looks at my financials they will just laugh at me and tell me to go away.

The 0.48% rate is certainly more acceptable than the 1.2% Amex rate.

The ATO portal was being annoying today, finally got it to work.

Great find by the original poster.

Some people in here are using the Qantas EDR Credit Card (Mastercard) at 1pt per $1....

Safely doing this would depend on your interpretation of the following conditions of this card: -

Eligible purchases exclude interest free promotions, balance transfers, business purchases and cash advances.

If you believe that your ATO payments are not business related then you are fine, others like me have broken this rule on the odd occasion to get back at the unfair way QEDRCC charge interest....

Qantas EDR Credit Card now available $0 for first year with 5,000 QFF sign up bonus

Because the Tax Department make my taxes personal they fit within those rules. I just paid a bit of my personal tax this month on the Everyday rewards card. The fee looks so little now!

never enjoyed paying tax so much..........

$32,472.00 BAS + $405.91 CC fee
$2,732.00 Personal Tax + $34.15

= $ 35,679.21 altogether X 3points for $1.00 for Westpac Altitude Platinum = 107,037 points.

Loving it!
