ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Thanks to all. Seems HSBC is my best bet so I will see how I go with some payments due within next couple of weeks. I found out about Bankwest as I was querying their count of my 'eligible purchases' and in passing the guy indicated my payment to ATO that was on the statement wasn't included and didn't 'count'. The Ts&Cs for BankWest and HSBC are virtually identical as both exclude "government charges" but seems the latter is adopting a more reasonable interpretation.

Suggest you not phone up the banks as this tends to have less than ideal outcomes.

Seems your sage advice was a little late ".... BankWest just told me ...."

No matter how often it is offered and repeated, some people still finds it simpler to call up the issuing banks to argue / enquire about their point(s).

Im wondering about ANZ black card, does the point posted 2-3 days after transactions ? or updated monthly ?

cheers

Generally points post at 10am two days after the transaction. Happy to report that points continue to post for ATO payments, although I generally try to add as much non-ATO usage on the card as possible, so as not to be too obvious.

Whilst not the best card points earning-wise, I continue to use it because it is one of the (few) cards that still pay for ATO transactions and as long as ANZ participates in specials, such as the recent 20% bonus plus 100 SCs on VA or the current 15% bonus for VA, I am a happy camper. I still need to finish my trip report, or rather the section on the SQ Suites ride we enjoyed thanks to this forum...

Received a letter from ANZ dated 30-Apr-2015 regarding changes to the points earn cap for my ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum account:

"Beginning 15 June 2015, you will earn Qantas Points on:
* eligible purchases made using your ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa cards up to $6,000 per statement period; plus
* eligible purchases made using your ANZ Frequent Flyer American Express cards up to $6,000 per statement period."

Unlimited amount of Bonus Points.

No specific removal of points for ATO payments.

Switching from Westpac Black Altitude back to Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer does have consequences. Our two direct earn cards are creating what some might consider too many miles. I did prefer to warehouse the miles but the Kris Flyer earn rate is better. We returned home from London last night and we are heading for Los Angeles next.

Lets hope there is no change to the conditions for the Black

To be fair though, there is a difference between querying the points (and not specifically mentioning any particular payments) and having the operator come back to advise that certain vendors do not accrue and their names, versus specifically asking "does ATO earn points".

And to state the obvious, if a particular Bank has stopped giving out points on ATO you'd have to suspect that advising people not to call is rather a matter of shutting the gate after the horse has bolted, they've already made the decision and the call won't change it.

Yes, Cove

But.... there is always a "but" .... it's not like we have too many choices ATM.

I realise that the earn rate on the WOW card has changed, but, anyone tested ATO on the new card? Looking to put my chickens in different baskets, or something like that.

Scr77 - I put $10K through last BAS because I had too many balls in the air on various cards on the due date and it was either that or no points at all. It paid at the advertised rates exactly.

Thanks BillytheFish for the new WOW plus Silver Donut team result.
I made a hog of myself before the points halving and I almost caught up to Mrscove's Qantas points stash.
How many ladies have more points/miles than their partners I have been wondering? Mrscove has more AA and QF miles/points than I have. I think of this as an investment in the future.

I keep giving mine to MrP as he has better status when redeeming flights. He gets all the Aquire, his own :p and my FF points. I keep my Alt points but he gets to fly (with me) in the comfy seats.

I completely missed that Westpac Black no longer gives points on ATO. :(. And Amex is so expensive.

I'm probably going to switch from Westpac Black Altitude to ANZ Black Rewards. I was using the ANZ Frequent Flyer black for "these" payments but I'd rather stop accumulating QF points as I've got quite a substantial balance now, and push my FF point earn to other programmes where its easier to redeem points for flights. I too am a fan of warehousing points in CC programs, before converting them to the FF programme of my choice as/when needed. The upside of the ANZ Black Rewards is that I can start accumulating points which can be converted to other FF programs other than QF BUT the downside is that because of the 3 year expiry on ANZ reward points, its not really warehousing the points until needed either. Something to bear in mind. As opposed to having Altitude/Citibank reward points which don't expire.

Why wouldn't you simply get the ANZ black altitude? Allows you to direct to several airlines while also allowing you to bank points with no expiry.

Not really sure how to answer this, but here's my best shot: What ANZ Black Altitude? AFAIK, there is no such product. Altitude is Westpac's reward points program, while ANZ Rewards is ANZ's reward points program. Why would ANZ have a card that gives points in Westpac's reward program? I'm very confused :(
