ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

My QCUCC credit limit is more than $10,000 but there is a $10,000 per day processing limit on ATO. Next day is ok for another $10,000 and so on.

My second ATO refund arrived ok this week by electronic transfer. I really did not mean to overpay the fiscal fiend but it can happen. I chose to get it back into my bank rather than theirs.

You're not the only one who purposely overpays the ATO to get more points ;)
However you might be the only one who does it at your sort of scale

I didn't know that I had overpaid as I was changing accountants. My long time accountant has retired way too early at 65.
It seems such a short time ago that we were doing our accounting course together but it was 1967 to 1969 which is quite a few night time sleeps ago.

Howdy all, can I confirm that the people in this thread talking about getting points when paying their ATO bills with ANZ Black are talking about "ANZ Frequent Flyer Black", not "ANZ Rewards Black"?

My partner has a fairly new ANZ Rewards black pair of cards, and when I called ANZ yesterday they told me no points are accrued for ATO payments on these cards, so I ended up paying directly from business bank account instead, as I see the AMEX surcharge as too high to justify using Amex Platinum edge card for .5pts per dollar...

.... and when I called ANZ yesterday they told me no points are accrued for ATO payments on these cards...

Time for another reminder
Please DO NOT ask the banks if they give points on ATO payments

Regarding ANZ Qantas vs ANZ Rewards, I am quite surprised if ANZ Qantas is giving points and ANZ Rewards is not
Anyone want to share?

Lahlee - May be you can ask your partner to try ATO payment with a small and unique amount, so it would be easy to see if points are given?

As of yesterday I can confirm ANZ rewards Black is ato friendly

I will do that. The only reason I rang was due to my poor last minute timing (BAS due yesterday), and it is a card I have no experience with - will be much more prepared next time!

damn - lesson learned. I should have trusted the old forum, not "the source" with the vested interest....

thanks guys :)

I called ANZ this morning, and asked if my work ANZ Business One Visa would earn points at ATO and was told Yes. (to pay boss's personal tax bill)
Yesterday called Commbank and was also told Yes, my Platimum Awards would earn points. (to pay my Company tax return)

Are you suggesting I was given wrong information? Please let me know before I fork out thousands.....

Do you guys know that if you use a tax agent or a bas agent (bookkeeper) to lodge your bas then you have a 4 week extension for every quarterly bas.
I always use the extension and still pay by credit card. No interest or penalty.

Tax agents do get an extension and can vary depending on your business. They can also ask for an extension on that as well which if not unreasonable can be done automatically online.

you get a 3 week extension by lodging online yourself - avoids paying a 3rd party.

Also they appear to be more interested in the lodging of the figures rather than the money -

I think I will try that new ANZ Black CC for the July BAS. It has been years since the golden days of ANZ credit cards. I hope it gives them a thrill. I am referring to the ANZ Qantas Telstra CC that started my points journey.. That was around 1989 I think.

CBA Plat and Diamond cards do earn at ATO. The point about not calling banks is not to highlight to them that they are shelling out for the points by the gazillion. I've never had too much time for that argument as I don't think the banks are un-aware of it.

Tax agents get about 3 weeks to lodge beyond the on-line timing. And I pay my accountant anyway :( , although I usually do it myself.

It was 3 weeks now it's 28 days extension or close to 4 weeks! Extension to lodge and pay.

That's a very handy thing for the future - I hadn't realised you could get an extension by lodging yourself online - I thought you had to be a tax agent. Thanks for the heads-up!
