ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Has anyone tried paying ATO in person at a post office and use EFPOS (I assume that includes CC)? If the merchant is recorded as Aus post we might get full point earn!

I think post office can only accept up to $3000. Most likely EFTPOS from saving account, CASH , Cheque.

Yes you can do multiple $3000 - Im pretty sure can not use CC

It's possible for Savings and Cheque accounts only... I recall the system blocks credit cards.
There used to be an option that worked but it was used too excessively.

I've earned QFF points by using an Amex Black QFF mastercard to pay off my HECS bill. Don't see why it wouldn't work for other ATO payments?

Not sure what you mean by "Amex Mastercard." But I am sure that there are now very few Amex cards that are good value at the ATO.

Can't pay ATO at a Post Office with a credit card. Not allowed to pay more than 3k per day unless by cheque. There are some PO's that break the rules.
If you go to another Post Office on the same day who's going to know other than the ATO?

Just buy the Australia Post agency seeing they are close to worthless other than for the frequent flyer points you could run up.

Terrible news with CBA that was my number one ATO card not sure where to go now except thumping a load through in October

Go early and go hard Pukka on CBA.
By the way I would suggest the safe last day on the Commonwealth card would be about October 28th as there can be a delay on the actual processing.
As they say here YMMV if you go later.

For those who 'need' to get a new card to aquire Virgin/Krisflyer miles, what's the next best card other than the "enhanced" CBA cards?
Is it just ANZ left?

What about the Amex Velocity Red card? Heard it's $1/pt and accepted for ATO? Can anyone confirm?
If so, can you downgrade from the Amex Velocity Platinum to the red card easily?

So for those who follow this thread, not those who want it handed to them on a platter:
I looked into setting up the scheme as described. It's a little convoluted but initially the best you'd get is around 2.6%. The use of premium or higher cards (which is what we all want to use) attracts much higher merchant interchange fees on Visa/MasterCard, but I believe it's all the same with Amex.
If I can get the AFSL or an appropriate exemption, rates could then be negotiated with Amex after reaching certain volumes and after holding such a facility for a period of time.
The risks on the business side are around potential fraud and chargebacks, although restricting the deposits to only well established government bodies could well mitigate that risk. Each user would enter into a contractual arrangement with the new company to provide "bill payment services" on your behalf.
As for PayPal, they have an arbitrary $12.5k limit on all credit card transactions, which wouldn't suit most of the high flyers around here.
Add to the initial 2.6% a service fee to cover ongoing costs of running the scheme and maintaining the license etc.
I could see the Amex rate going down to the 1.x% mark over the medium term once volumes increased, but being a financial product, the risk may be considered higher for them.
Anyway, still thinking about this possibility, especially considering the well is all but dried up these days with major cards now biting the dust.

The problem with all Amex cards is the higher fee, compared to Visa and Mcard.
However, I think this is the only Amex card that offers 1pt/$ for ATO (if anyone can confirm it), all the others offer 0.5pt/$ for ATO @ 1.45%, which isn't that great.

Bankwest being a subsiduary of CBA I was wondering if my QF Mastercard with them was going to get hobbled. No notification in my statement that came yesterday though! Still a good option that I haven't seen too much mention of here.

I've been getting 0.75 points with Westpac Altitude black amex (after sweep to a FF program).
