ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

My hunch is that it will earn points. My Bank Of Melb amplify works. BOM also owned by Stgeorge/westpac. I second Coves test recommendation, but let us know how you go.

Thanks for your replies Scr77 and cove - very much appreciated.

I actually don't have a St George card yet. Thinking about applying for one for the sole purposes of eeking out a little bit more out of this gravy train. Our current portfolio has run out of economical options.

Is Virgin High Flyer definitely out due to the Citibank connection?

Forget ATO and Citi.
BW Platinum is still ok but is capped at 200,000 points plus any sign on bonus.

Does anyone know if QCUCC is still working for ATO ? I need something to move to, now that my Woolies and HSBC cards are capped at $2500 per month

It is half a point per dollar after the first $2500 for Woolies and HSBC. So if you put $5000 per month on each credit card you would earn 2 lots of 3750 points equaling 7500 QF points for $42.
QCU cc works.

ANZ black is a no go for ATO but good for everything else.
HSBC Qantas Visa platinum has the 2500 points per month cap at 1 fo1 then drops to 0.5 points per $ like the Woolies card

Be aware with anz black visa - existing customer will get reduce points $1 = 2 points into 1.25 points. ( amex no change )

New customers are getting $1 = 2 points ( no ATO payments ).

This is for Black Rewards card, not Black Frequent Flyer (QFF) card.

Just had my HSBC QF Platinum VISA earn via ATO payments wings clipped from 01/05/2016.

Will use my card till then and then probably swap the QFCU CC which I still believe earns QF points on ATO payment (if anyone could confirm that would be most appreciated)?

The HSBC card was already down to 0.5 points after $2,500. Are they excluding the ATO entirely after 1 May?

My understanding is that some HSBC cards remained at 1p/$1 if you applied during a certain time frame (that was decided retrospectively) of which I was one.

They have now stated on my CC Statement from this mornings mail -

Part (e) of the definition for ineligible transactions in condition 11 is deleted and replaced with the follow:

(e) a fee or charge, including government fees or charges such as registrations, rates, licences, infringements or Australian Tax Office payments;

Pretty definitive I would say!

You will probably get 3,750 points out of paying $5,000 ATO on either a WOWcc or an HSBCcc. Only worth doing if you already have a card that is sitting idle. Well these comments may only be accurate until the end of April 2016 in regard to HSBC.

I'm deciding whether I should sign up a QCU card. Some people here have mentioned that Jetstar Platinum card still gives points for ATO payments?

Is this still the case? Any cap? I can't find anything in the fine print, but I wanted to confirm before I consider signing up...

The Jetstar card does seem cheaper...

Jetstar is a goer at 1 for 1. Has a 100k pa cap.

I can confirm that this is the case - I received the same notification as Flying Fox today with my statement. And yes, it's already down to 1:1 until $2.5k. I'll use it until the end of April and then hand back.

i used a hsbc platinum rewards card (not qantas) to pay my bas recently and got 1 point per dollar. btw its unlimited not capped like the qantas program. not sure if 1 hsbc platinum rewards point is worth the 0.42% ato card payment fee though nor what you can redeem the points for? i think you can now transfer them to velocity program too. does anyone know if they excluding the ATO entirely after 1 May for the hsbc platinum rewards card too?
