ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Baggas mentioned an offer from Bankwest for World MC plus 50,000 pts @ $199. I feel sure this may be incorrect, as I am not aware of any offer being available for the World card, as I thought they were an "invite only" card.
There was an offer from BW for the Platinum MC.

Wasn't me that mentioned that - was the guy before. World MC is invite only (although not hard to score an invite), with a current fee of $220pa

As far as I'm aware there have been no changes to the BankWest terms and conditions which specifically exclude ATO, just reducing the points earn.

I believe calling banks to ask about this is never a wise move.

For a junior member you have already shown considerable AFF wisdom!

I think that's out of date.

They were offering 50k for the Platinum last year. World is invite only after 6 months of holding Plat.

AFAIK - both still pay out on ATO, but at reduced earn making the economics questionable.

I was quite busy today paying ATO bills. I used 5 CCs and had to reload some and keep going. It took about 1.5 hours and the results were best ever. Almost a work of art....but not quite....just a foolscap page filled with entries and I stayed under 6 figures per entry just in case it would trigger a check this from the processing credit card folks. All done and dusted.

I previously addressed this, but my post appears to have been removed???
Anyway, I mentioned the BW World card. You are correct, the offer was for Platinum, but I requested and was upgraded to World after a month or two.

Given I'm not willing to accept the AMEX fees, and the Bankwest World is the only card that _may_ work, I'm going to give it a go in this statement period and will report back... What do I have to lose (except the $50 MC fee I guess).

Are you willing to list which cards you use, and confirm if you received (or just expect to receive) points (and at what rate per $1)

The best cards to use are not Australian issued cards. To get them, you'll need foreign income. In which case you're likely paying a lot less or nil tax in Australia.
Plenty of foreign cards have 0% currency conversion and I know of 1 that earns 4 KrisFlyer per $.

Personally I think the ATO gravy train is over for anyone who can't obtain CC's outside AU.

Although not both at the same time. Also, there would still be a cap of how may miles can be earned, and there would still be a buy/sell spread even if there is a zero conversion fee. Not really worth the effort unless you have a consistent foreign income.

I've got a Citi US card and have been tracking the spread to spot for the "pending" amount and when it posts and it's been remarkably close to live spot at the time of the transaction. I agree, may not be replicated across all card issuers as a trade off for no currency conversion fee may be an unfavourable spread (to the customer).

I've never checked. Wonder how fair FX rate is with Citi & Amex in return for the bonus points funded by the currency conversion fee?

I moved on to BAS tonight and the Citi US CC went thru without a glitch and the AA miles were earned at 0.76 per ATO dollar. Was very pleased with the exchange rate Citi US used in both payments I did.
The good news is Citi US have been increasing our $US credit limits. Don't bother with a US Amex as the cost is much more.
I have previously said which Australian CCs still work.

:(:(:(

As for the Bankwest World, you can get an invitation as long as you ask their customer service people nicely and have a platinum with a credit limit over 12K.
Sadly.... applied not long before the news of their points downgrading!

As long as you happy to pay, there is still AMEX westpac altitude black 0.75KF/$1 1.45% amex fees

Since anz black gone, Macquarie qantas about to die this 12 May 2016. I have no choice now and need to use AMEX westpac altitude black :( The last option

What happened to your WBC Amex Kris Flyer CC?

Cove.

I did not have a chance to get WBC Amex Kris Flyer. Last year it was available at westpac website, I did applied for it. View days later, westpac said no longer available and was offered altitude black.
About a week later WBC amex krisflyer was removed from westpac website :(

Well SQ pointy end is good enough for you to run with Westpac Black Altitude Amex at 0.75 Kris Miles per tax dollar. Too bad about missing the 1.25 Kris Miles per tax dollar card bbqwer. At that cost make sure you do SQ saver redemptions in business, first or suites.
